A day in new orleans - best things to do

We are spending the night in New Orleans the day we get off the ship. We are staying at the Drury and while we want to do the streetcar we want to explore some by foot. Any suggestions?

Also - inexpensive resturants around the hotel. Casual is great!

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

The French Quarter is an easy walk and can take up most of a day. I would also go uptown on the streetcar and walk around Audobon Park.

For a casual, inexpensive meal go to Mother's, which on Poydras toward the river.

Naploeon House is walkable (about ten blocks). Domilise's is way uptown, and isn't.

You also asked about driving to the terminal. Just go down Poydras towards the river and turn right on Convention Center Blvd. You will pass the Convention Center, on your left. At the end of the Convention Center, turn left and follow the signs.

That's how we always went - but the google map showed being able to drive over the railroad track at the other end of the convention center. Guess it's wrong.

You will turn left on Henderson Street, at the end of the Convention Center. Henderson Street crosses the railroad tracks, then you turn left again and that street takes you to the terminal.

Yeap - that's the way we have always gone - but if you run the map from the hotel to the terminal on Google it shows the street at the opposite end of the convention center as a through street (you would cross railroad tracks on that end also). Last time we were there they had big signs that said it isn't a through street - wasn't sure if that had changed since we had been there. I'm sure the google map is just wrong but I will check it out when we go.

The Cathedral at Jackson Square and Cafe Du Monde are must-sees. There is also an Aquarium near Audobon Park (ranked #4 in the US) next to the Riverwalk Shopping Mall. The Garden District is also a nice place to do a walking tour. There is SO much to see and do in NOLA!
