Sitka Excursions

Zoolander

Recommended Posts

Will be cruising from Seward to Vancouver on the Regent Mariner on May 20th:D.

Looks like we will have some extra funds because of shipboard credits:).

Any can not miss opportunities in Sitka ?

At this point we will be taking the six hour cruise in Seward, whale watching in Juneau, Zip Lining  in Ketchican and taking the train tour in Skagway.

Thanks in advance;).

I second the sea otter quest. Last year I did this around the same time you'll be there. We saw otters and humpbacks and there was even a bear on the shoreline (too far to photograph but you could see him with binoculars), oh, and tons of eagles.

The Raptor center was part of the tour I signed up for with the ship. Definitely worth it.

We were picked up directly from the ship and then left in town after the Raptor Center.

Also, check out the Russian Orthodox church, and the shops near it. Lots of Alaskan made jewelry around there.

I'll second the recommendation for the Raptor Rehab Center. They take in birds of prey that have been injured in some kind of encounter with human society (cars, power lines, poachers) and nurse them back to health, the goal being to release them back into the wild. When I was there in 2004, they had an eagle that had been injured too badly to be released, so he'd become their mascot, and they introduce him to all the groups that come in.

There's also a Tlingit cultural center not too far from where you tender in (actually, it's a small town - nothing's too far away :D). They have some artists in residence who show their work, and you may find some unique gifts/souvenirs.
