What would be the best glacier helicopter tour?

We are cruising on the island princess in july 2009. I was looking over the shore excursions and noted that juneau offers the mendenhall glacier helicopter tour and skagway offers a glacier discovery tour but doesn't specify which glacier they will be landing on. In skagway you're on the glacier a little longer but will it be too cold to enjoy? Which one is the most scenic? And what are peoples opinions on the options available.

We did the one in Skagway in 2007. It was amazing. My kids absolutely loved it! You are only on the glacier for about 30 minutes and they do give you vests, glacier boots (that go over your shoes) and ski poles. We live in California and did not find it too cold.

In Juneau we did the four glacier helicopter tour. It was a great trip and took us to galciers that are deeper in the ice fields then the mendenhall glacier is. The scenery flying there and over the glaciers was fantasitic, and getting out and walking around the glacier was awe inspiring. My DW and I talked about it and even though it was pricey, we would definetly do it again.

What also might help you is to go to the Ports of Call forum, then scroll to Alaska. There is a wealth of information there. Those questions that you are asking about excursions are highly talked about over there. You get lots of good opinions.

We took the Four Glacier Flightseeing Tour in Juneau in 2006 when we cruised roundtrip from San Francisco on the Regal Princess. The tour was by Era Flightseeing, and was booked through the ship. We did see 4 glaciers, and the flight was very smooth. We landed on the Taku glacier, where we went for a walk while wearing heavy boots with cleats. We looked down into crevasses and heard the water runoff. It was a longer flight that the flight to Mendenhall glacier. We would do this excursion again.:)
