SeafordCruiser Posted January 23, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2009 Does anyone know exactly how long this tender into Belize is I've heard up to 1/2 hour, which is a little more than I can bear...For some reason those tender ferries get me nauseous!!:o
DonMar Posted January 23, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2009 I do not remember the tender being 1/2 hour. It was about 20min - maybe. It is a fast boat so there is not too much rocking - at least that is what I experienced.
bakerintn Posted January 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 25, 2009 Recently, from the time the tender left the ship until it tied up at the dock was about 15 minutes for us. The tenders are relatively high speed and with good air circulation. We went in on a catamaran which was very stable at speed, and went out on a fairly narrow single hulled boat, but it too did well. That day the waves were basically perpendicular to our course, so not much rocking action.
dvan68 Posted January 26, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2009 Just back from the Valor - and it was about 15 minutes on the open water. They go very fast, so there is not the rolling motion from side to side, but if they hit a wake from another boat the bow would go up and down. Lard Greystoke Posted January 27, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2009 The reef is pretty far off the shore of Belize, which means 1) unless there's high wind, shouldn't be much wave action, 2) the big ships have to anchor at fair intervals in deep spots. That's why tender time will vary, although 15-20 min seems about typical. For me it was a somewhat memorable part of the experience. The Belize horizon is low, so after a bit you were in a completely flat seascape with huge ships scattered here and there. The day was windless and the air so full of moisture that, although it was perfectly clear, all the ships faded into a soft focus in the distance. Maybe next time I go back I'll just tender back and forth all day, it's free.
Sherry Baby Posted January 28, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 28, 2009 We were in Belize Jan. 14 on HAL Veendam- three ships were anchored 5 miles out. Our tender took 20 minutes, not enough to make me seasick, which I am highly susceptible to. The tender held about 50 people.
darjensil Posted January 28, 2009 #7 Share Posted January 28, 2009 We have tendered into Belize numerous times- don't recall it taking much more than 20 minutes from the time you leave the big ship to the time you get to Belize. The boats move relatively quickly.
