asdfjean Posted January 24, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2009 In Pto. Madryn we've been asked to give our passport #'s to book a trip to Punta Tombo. We would have to do this over the internet. Does this sound safe and necessary?

sultan_sfo Posted January 24, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2009 Some tour operators in South American Ports require the # and expiry date. We have not felt uncomfortable giving it.
Ray&Sara Posted January 25, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 25, 2009 We were asked by our tour operator in Pto Madryn for the passport number. I gave her the number off our old ones but they never asked to see it or anything so you could probably give any number. The tour operator told us they need it for insurance purposes. I called the State Dept and asked if they knew of any problems or scams invloving this and they said no and that it is common in SA to be asked for it.
