If you haven't read it , Beach Music by Conroy is a great cruise book. It's an old book and can be found in paperpack. It takes place mostly in South Carolina. If you aren't familiar with the author, he also wrote Prince of Tides.

19 down - 3 more booked

Explorer of the Seas 05/04 7 days - Caribbean
Regal 10/04 13 days - Montreal to Ft. Lauderdale

I am currently in the middle of Larry McMurtry's Berrybender series, The Sin Killer, The Wandering Hill and By Sorrow's River. As usual McMurtry has captured the essense of human behavior and written an excellent book.

I listen to digital books from www.Audible.com Check it out. I love buying current books, downloading them to my computer and listening to them on my ipod. I find I never listen to the radio in the car anymore which was becoming a daily irritation for me.

It depends on what type of book you really enjoy reading. I am an avid reader and a previous bookstore owner so my recommendations are as follows:

Mystery/Thriller: Anything James Patterson
Romantic/Suspense: Anything Nora Roberts
Adventure: James Michener ( long books with a lot of education packed in ) or Clive Cussler ( Raise the Titanic is always a good cruise read)
Light Humor: Janet Evanovich ( easy to read and you'll be cracking up all of the time )

I always try to find a light fiction that either has a cruise theme or an area based on where I am going on that particular cruise.

For a light read I enjoy the "Calder" series by Janet Dailey. It is an easy read, enjoyable and captivating, a real page turner. I am not really much into romance novels but this one is wonderfully written and doesn't revolve around the "love" couples. It is a whole series about a couple of generations of a family cattle rancher. I great easy read! I also enjoy the "Clan of the Cave Bear" series by Jane Auel. This is one of those classics I pick up again and again every few years.

I just bought 2 for myself:
"dry" by Augusten Burroughs - a dark humore memoir
and
"The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson - a true story abt murder and the World's Fair (but not a "true crime" book)

Last year in November on my cruise I read "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides and it was AWESOME - I couldn't put it down the entire cruise!

Tiki Gal-
I'll be bringing Glorious Appearing as well, we're on Explorer 4/24. Can't wait; it's been a long year waiting for this new book. Not exactly "light fiction" but when you're hooked you're hooked!

I'll read just about anything, but some of my favorites are:

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (very different and sucks you in on the 1st page)

Anything by Nicholas Evans - The Horse Whisperer, The Loop, or The Smoke Jumper. Great stories!

Anything by Maeve Binchy - a great storyteller!

Mariner of the Seas 06/2004
Grand Princess 01/2002
Ocean Princess 02/2001
