Bringing Food onto the Star?

I've never cruised before, but from what I'm gathering from this site is that it's not ok to bring food from port back onto the ship- is this correct? We're going on the Star in a couple weeks and there a few Mexican candies that I love and I was wondering if packaged foods were ok and the contraband was just things like fresh fruits, etc.

Actually, its the exact opposite... Most ports do not want you taking fruits etc OFF the ship into their port... You can bring processed foods like candy back to the ship and back home with you with no trouble. Just don't try to bring any fruits or nuts or beans or vegetables off the ship (especially when you get back to the US) whether they were bought on the islands or came from the ship... Customs is very strict about this. Another no-no these days are those silly hats made of palm fronds (or anything made from them for that matter) ... Apparently there are little mites in the palm fronds that the US is trying to prevent from entering our environment.
