Conquest questions - help

Hey fellow Texas cruisers!

I am a somewhat experienced cruiser (4 cruises/3 on Carnival within the last 6 years) but haven't been on one since 2006. We just recently relocated to Houston, (from Washington D.C.) and I am so excited that I can now go on a cruise without having to fly to the ship, so it's a no-brainer that we'll be taking our next cruise on the Conquest. We're looking at going in mid-April (April 12-19th).

Now, I have only cruised as a couple, and now we have a 9 month old (he'll be almost a year old when we cruise) so I know that changes things a LOT. We will also be cruising with family members; my in-laws (in their 60's) and my brother and sister in law (in their early 40's) and their 3 kids (ages 9, 6, and 4).

Before I had a kid I said, "No way, I am not bringing my baby on a cruise". Yeah...now I am eating my words. The grandparents will be there to help, and my kid is really well behaved and just about never cries or fusses, he just loves being in public places and being around people.

There are a few areas of concerns;

1. When I try to get a quote on-line, I cannot book 5 in a cabin (my sister in law's family is a family of 5). Is this impossible to do, will I have to book one of their kids with the grandparents? Are they any rules against having 5 people in a cabin (they will most likely get a balcony or a suite if this is the case). I am familiar with the different types of rooms, and know that they can get one with the 2 twin beds that convert to a King, and that there are also pull down beds and convertible sofas. The two girls could share one of the beds, and the 9 year old boy can sleep on the sofa, but I just wanted to make sure there weren't any rules that would prevent that.

2. I see that childrens ages are 2-12. Do infants under 2 get a special rate? I know they're not free, but I don't see a category for the 0-2 age range.

3. I have my eyes on some balcony cabins on the Spa deck, is there anything good/bad about these cabins? Are these the ones with floor to cieling windows? In the description, it says that they are balcony cabins, but I read somewhere else that the family cabins with the floor to cieling windows are located on the spa deck, so I am confused.

4. If I book all of the cabins, can I get the past passenger discount for everyone? I have never used the past passenger discount because I have always been able to find a better deal, but I haven't been able to this time.

Any input/help would be fantastic. I am really looking forward to going on a cruise again after a 3 year hiatus! Also, this would be a first cruise for everyone else in the family, and I think that this ship and itinerary will be a great one for first time cruisers. If not, then I guess they will never trust me in planning a vacation again!

Why not call Carnival and ask them all your questions? They are REALLY helpful with the details that you can't always find online. Enjoy your Cruise!

Thanks for the info! Didn't know that the Conquest was in Drydock, what other changes are they making to it? I used to spend so much time on Cruise Critic, but I haven't been back on in quite a while, I am so out of the loop! I hope to not stay out of the cruising world for this long again!

Yeah, I know, I should just call, but I hate getting stuck talking on the phone! It will be nice to go on a ship fresh out of Drydock. The movies under the stars will be nice, although I think the Liberty had that when we sailed on her, and I was so excited about it, and we never even went....I was always in the casino!

She is getting the Carnival Sea Side Theater installed... a 22 foot X 12 foot LCD screen on the Lido Deck!

The 6E OV cabins on the Spa Deck have been converted to balcony cabins...

The old CRT TVs in the cabins are being replaced by flat screens...

Stem to stern internet access so you can log on from your cabin!!

Paint, carpet, replace furniture as necessary and a BUNCH of cosmetic improvements!!!

She's gonna be, as the Crazies say, pertyful!!!

:D

we took 3 grandkids on a cruise last march. we had to get a suite to hold everyone. we went on the 5 day/ecstasy and the total price for a spring break cruise was expensive enough, much less trying that on the 7 day/conquest. then 2 months ago we just brought 2 of the kids and was able to get a balcony room. the balcony cabin is the same size as the inside or window cabin. by the way we had to do a cat. 12 suite, the cat. 11 would not work.

Thanks everyone! I am totally getting excited about this! I really hope my in-laws enjoy cruising at least half as much as I do.

I've never been on the Conquest, I've been on the Pride, Valor, and Liberty (I always tried going on the newest ship at the time). After the refurbishment, she'll be like a new ship.
