MIA to Port HELP

We are flying in the day before. Should we stay at the airport and go to the port the morning we depart or should we stay closer to the port?

we are also flying out the day after we get back and the same question applies.

Thanks for any help.

Staying near the airport works best for us because we generally get there the evening before our cruise. We can save taxi fare by using a hotel shuttle. In the morning, we take a cab to the port--very short and easy trip, perhaps 20 minutes.

There is nothing near the airport. If you have any time to see the city, and haven't been, head to Miami Beach or South Beach. Downtown is like any large city. But if you stay at the Intercontinental or Holiday Inn on Biscayne, you will be very near Bayside Mall which is an outside mall with shops and many restaurants right on the water. At least it's something if you have a couple hours.

A lot depends on your budget and when you are traveling. Airport hotels are cheaper.
