Charlie Car Rental Drop Off

We are a group of 6 and renting 2 cars from Charlie. Staying one night, pre cruise at Rio Mar and sailing out of Pan American pier. Should we drop off others and luggage at pier and then return car to Charlie's and take their shuttle back to pier? Has anybody done this, just thought that it would be easier than loading 6 passengers and luggage onto shuttle?

We drove the rent car to the Pan Am Pier. Parked. Dropped all of our luggage(except carry-ons). At this point there were just 3 of us. We got out of the line that takes you into the Pier to check in and returned to the rental car. We then drove to Charlie's to return the car and get the rest of our family who were flying in on Sat. Charlie's airport shuttle then met our "kids" at the airport and brought them to us at the rental office. They could not have been nicer!! We were at the Normandie pre-cruise, so it was easy enough to get to the pier. The Wyndham Rio Mar, where we stayed for 3 days after the cruise, is a good 45 minute drive to the pier. Charlie's was great to do business with as well as being cheaper than the big name agencies.

Just from our experience in November. A couple that we had met online, thru are roll call stayed at the same hotel as us, pre cruise. They offered to give us a ride to Pam AM pier.

 

Well, we went to Charlie's on Saturday morning and while they could not have been any nicer. They put a fifth person into an already crowded small car and took us to the pier. We had four bags in the trunk. One large suitcase on the passengers lap up front and all three of us in the back had a carryon on our laps.

 

My advice would be to drop everyone and their luggage off at the pier. And then to return the cars. Just make sure you keep your paperwork with you that you will need to board, as we had no wait at all and the others will probably be on board having a drink by the time you get back!!

 

Otherwise I would email Charlies ahead of time and make sure he has a shuttle available to take six people.

You can park short term at the pier--an hour or so without any trouble, I would guess.

Yep, your plan is the way to go. It's much easier to drop everyone off and not bother transferring all that luggage into a van that might not hold it all. That is exactly the way we did it. You'll love the Rio Mar, click on my AOS review link and scroll towards the end for tons of pics.
