If you don't get enough answers here, I might suggest checking out the ports of call boards and your roll call. We found others to join in private tours in the Med which were much less expensive and less crowded than ships tours. Have a wonderful cruise! We were in Cadiz last year and absolutely loved it. You will have a wonderful day just staying in port and getting a ticket for the Touristic Bus. It is cheap and takes you everywhere you would want to go in this very small and beautiful town. We did the entire loop, then got off the bus and walked a bit along the water, stopped at the wonderful park and ate a snack there, then got back on and stopped where we wanted. There are street musicians, lots of good restaurants, great architecture, a fabulous beach area, great sunshine sitting on the upper deck of the bus with earphones telling you about the sights. We will be in Cadiz again in April and plan to do it all again!!
GloriaF Posted February 3, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 3, 2009 I think Alicante is where you can catch a ferry to Gibraltar if your ship is in port for several hours. When our ship ported in Cannes, a group of 8 from the roll call planned ahead and hired a private tour with vandriver/guide all in one person. We decided to make a big loop around the French countryside including Eze, Nice, etc. It was a great day! The tour cost was about 500 Eu total, making each couple owe 125 Eu, or 62.5 Eu each. Is Sardinia the port closest to Florence? If so, the Cinque Terre is 5 beautiful hill towns like old Italy, or Florence with the museums, etc. You definitely need to check out the Med Board & here's a link: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=7&f=

caber Posted February 3, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 3, 2009 The train runs all along that coastline. It is frequent and inexpensive. You can do Monte Carlo on your own on the train.
