Question about B2B sold as one trip and upgrades

This might be a stupid post but please bear with me. :p

 

Me, GF and my parents have booked 5+9 nights B2B on Jewel from Miami as one 14 night cruise and the second part of the cruise seems to be very well sold regarding the real suites (that we could afford ;)) and that's why just after christmas we booked AC for the parents as the trip is for their birthdays and had to book "only" AF for us - original plan was to book two AE's. The sad part is that the first part of the cruise has still every AE+ category available as it's the busiest spring break week in US.

 

I remember reading about people sometimes being able to upgrade onboard/at checkin if there are available cabins still at that time, but

1. is it even possible and

2. if it's possible or not, can you upgrade to only one part of the trip on this kind of B2B?

 

Now that the cruise is a little over a month away, I was thinking about contacting our TA and asking how much would we have to pay to upgrade but after checking NCL's website, it seems that only real suite available for the whole trip is A3 GTY. Even the GVs seem to be sold.

 

The reason for all this? AC on Jade was soooooo goood, I don't want to experience anything below real suites. :D
