Do I have to be in my cabin for room service?

Do I have to be in my cabin for room service to deliver their meal or will they just leave it in the cabin if I don't answer the door?

The people who carry your room service do not usually have keys to people's rooms... so you must open the door for them (suites and butlers do not apply)..

I would think that you have to be there for them to give you your food. The person who delivers the food is not your cabin steward, so they don't have a key to get into your room. And putting it down in the hallway, on the floor is just yucky. Who knows what someone might do to your food while it is out there? In addition, it's common to tip the person who brings your room service food which you can't do if you aren't there.
