Splinter Posted February 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2009 Not sure of your definition of "reasonably priced". The hotels closest to the cruise ship pier would include the Holiday Inn on the Bay and the Best Western Bayside Inn. Next would be the Hampton Inn on Pacific Coast Hwy, or the or the Embassy Suites or Hyatt Grand Manchester near Seaport Village. There is also the Westin or the 500 West. La Pensione in Little Italy is reasonable (book on-line) but definitely does not have a shuttle. You might want to try Priceline and put in a bid for a 3-4 star hotel in the Marina or Gaslamp area. Some provide airport and/or cruise ship shuttles, but you may have to take a cab or paid shuttle as a number of hotels have recently cut out their shuttle services in the downtown area as a cost cutting measure. Thanks Shawn We're on the same cruise with you with a group of friends and many of us are staying at the Holiday Inn Bayside which is just on the other side of the airport, about 4 miles from the pier. They have a great parking/cruise package, but also a shuttle.
Splinter Posted February 15, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2009 Just so you know that the HI Bayside has nothing close by as far as really good restaurants or sightseeing. You can save money there, but it may be off-set by having to cab from there to the Gaslamp Quarter, the Zoo, Balboa Park, Little Italy, or even to Cabrillo Monument (which is also west of the airport). Thanks, we've been there before, so know about the area. Most of us have cars, so having stuff local is not a big deal and we won't be needing to do tours of SD anyway, just a place to stay overnight and keep some of the cars for the cruise. But that could be a factor for some people.
