Clarea Posted February 16, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2009 We were on Monarch last month. She is in great shape. I would not hesitate to go again. Bob
HKG Posted February 16, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2009 I was on the Monarch in Sept and Dec 2008. Most of the Public Area was refurbished in Nov 2008. Some of the public restroom was redone. Othewise very friendly crews and great Captains, Captain Karin and Rick. Of course the bathroom in the stateroom is smaller than the newer ships, but its great for short cruise. karena1 Posted February 16, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2009 We were on Monarch over Feb 6th, thought for an older ship she is in great shape. We saw staff fixing/cleaning all the time, so I would not worry. We have 4 more booked this year. Love the little weekend getaways!
cruiser/teacher Posted February 16, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Just back from a weekend cruise today. The ship was in great shape. A few areas are showing wear- some carpet and fabric on some couches, but this in no way impacted our trip. Great itinerary, great crew, great food...we had a SO cabin and were glad we did. There was room to move around the bed on all sides and lots of storage! I'd definately sail her again!
suezyq50 Posted February 17, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 17, 2009 We had fun. We thought the ship looked good. We will book her again soon. It is an easy port for us to drive to.
Pumbaamd Posted February 17, 2009 #7 Share Posted February 17, 2009 We had an OV on the Promenade deck last month. It was great! Would do it again! Go for it. Rick and Deirdra
seminolepharmd Posted February 17, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 17, 2009 We just returned from a 3-night cruise on the Monarch. The public areas of the ship look really great! Our stateroom was clean and neat but it could have used a little updating - nothing too major though!
m4hami Posted February 17, 2009 #9 Share Posted February 17, 2009 Just returned from a 4 day cruise Feb 13th. great ship, great crew, great food; a few signs of wear and tear but all and all a great ship and a wonderful cruise:D
Tex_Jen Posted February 17, 2009 #10 Share Posted February 17, 2009 Was on the ship the last weekend in January. She was in really good shape. Even though the ship was full, it never seemed crowded, either. Really nice for a weekend cruise and it was my first time on a "smaller" ship. robmharper Posted February 19, 2009 #12 Share Posted February 19, 2009 Hi, I might be the only one that has anything negative to say about the Monarch. I sailed it twice last 2 years and, both times the wife & I thought that most of the lounges smelled pretty bad near the bar area. The Schooner bar, our favorite on every ship, was unbearable. I hope they remedied this for the new itinerary. I did like the remodel.
txcowboy10 Posted February 19, 2009 #13 Share Posted February 19, 2009 She's one of my favorite small ships...best food of most RCL ships IMO, and some of the best staff. I always get a JS so I can enjoy the balcony for wine sipping, and its usually just a few $ more and well worth it. This ship is great for shorter getaways to the Bahamas and sail her often as I can. GlitterGirlFL Posted February 19, 2009 #14 Share Posted February 19, 2009 Yes we just cruised on Monarch on a 4 night and a 3 night cruise and she is in very good shape just a few things different from the Sovereign that she replaced. No Johnny Rockets and they have a restrauant called Jade that they charge for the sushi. They still have the coffee shop Seattle Coffee and the Ice Cream Ben and Jerry's charge also. They do not have the soft serve ice cream on pool deck like the other ships. We just came off the Monarch in January 30th and we spent much of the time in the Schooner bar playing cards and drinking also for the Super Bowl game did not find any smell at all. The ship was very clean and well kept.
IBookHePays Posted February 19, 2009 #16 Share Posted February 19, 2009 Yes, she is older, but in great shape, and as others have said, the crew is wonderful. But if you find her lacking in any way, feel free to send her back to us in California! We miss her!!!

kittymom65 Posted February 22, 2009 #18 Share Posted February 22, 2009 We were on the Monarch last week, she is in very good shape give her age. The crew was the friendliest we have encountered on a cruise ship. No funny smells noticed...
