Hawaii rain

I lived in Hawaii for 6 years and I can tell you that the folks who live there only use umbrellas in driving rain. Most rain in Hawaii is fleeting and it is generally warm enough that you will soon dry off. Friends pointed out to me that the sure sign of tourists were those who carried umbrellas and ran at the first sign of rain. ;)

Whenever I go to visit, I only carry a light rain shell with a hood.

I will admit that at this time of the year, there can be some bad rainstorms (like when hurricanes brush the islands,) you might want to keep an eye on the weather before you leave and make sure that no major storm systems are on the way.

Have a wonderful time! Hawaii will always feel like home to me. :)

My wife and I have been to the islands 3 times and only gotten a few light showers (mostly on our Dec-Jan trip). We never bring umbrellas or rain gear. There are usually stores close by if you need that stuff when you get there.
