Yesterday I posted a thread about booking BTB cruises in the Med for 2010 in a mini suite. I posted that I was told I would have the dining reservation hotline number and also priority embarkation, disembarkation.

I few posters stated that I may have been given incorrect info and to recheck with my source.

Well, I rechecked with my source. ( Who is a sales consultant for NCL- you contact him by dialing NCLs 800 number ) He states that I WILL get these perks for a mini suite.

I'm making a deposit on this reservation this evening and would love to know if I'm going to have worries with this later. I know many of you

have sailed NCL countless times and have far more experience than I do.

Thanks

Here you go -- a link to NCL's site with information about their suites and villas -- http://www.nclsuitesandvillas.com/tabid/77/Default.aspx

Look at the list of the perks, and pay CLOSE attention to the single asterisk (*) entries which explicitly say they do NOT apply to mini-suites -- No "VIP Living," No "VIP Extras," and NO "VIP Transport and Departures."

Refer your NCL source to that link -- sounds like he's trying to close a booking without making sure he's giving accurate info.

I have always thought that mini's get vip boarding, 48 hour advanced for restaurant reservations and the use of the Concierge. Other than that not for sure what else they will get.

Don't think they get the Concierge, actually -- Minis are treated the same as balcony cabins -- vip boarding, 48 hours for reservations (versus 24), and participation in onboard special dining chances (like breakfast and lunch in a specified venue -- normally the main dining room closed to lower cabin classes).

That said, I just went to NCL's site and spent over 15 minutes trying to find the very helpful list of 2.0 perks, divided by cabin class, which used to be accessible right from the home page. I couldn't find it. :( I'm hoping that's user error (me) and not that NCL's now pulled it.

We just got off a January cruise on the Dawn in a mini-suite (#11606) and you most definitely do not have concierge (or butler) service. Nor did we get special embark other than the fact that we have cruised before and had access to the Latitudes features (which I didn't even see at embark.)

I can't verify any features about dining. I do know we were NOT eligible for the breakfast/lunch option in Cagney's as other real suite holders were nor did I see anything mentioned in our cabin paperwork about special reservations

According to the Pearl info, no on the concierge, and balconies get 48 hour advanced reservations for the restaurant.

AF (mini-suite): Sitting area, private balcony, two lower beds that convert to a queen-size bed and luxury bath and shower. (Staterooms for persons with disabilities have a shower only.)

versus

AE (Penthouse): Living area, private balcony, dining area, bedroom with queen-size bed and luxury bath and shower. (Staterooms for persons with disabilities have a shower only.) Butler service and concierge available.

I'm thinking just knowing the category and ship would help here. We could point the OP to the exact listing of info.

I'll be on the Gem. In a minisuite ( don't know the cat? ) on the 11th deck.

I know I don't get the butler or concierge.

I was told I'd "not have to stand in line" would be "walked to my cabin". I also asked about dining reservations and was told that "I'd have the same access to making reservations as suites".

The latter statement is definitely incorrect. Minisuites have the same access as balconies (a longer window for making dining reservations), but suites have access to the concierge and minisuites don't. Otherwise, you might receive special embarkation (reports have been all over the map on this, depending on port -- some have special balcony/minisuite lines, others don't seem to). If booking a mini over a regular balcony is a real budget issue for you, I'd take a balcony. Compared to a balcony, minisuites offer slightly larger cabins and balconies, a tub/shower combo, and a curtain to separate the bed area from the sofa/tv area. Those things may make a difference if there are more than 2 in the cabin, though (I'm not clear on that from your posts).

what do you see to make you think her rep is trying to just close the deal? maybe I missed something

These threads pop up every few months. NCL really needs to change "mini suites" to "deluxe balconies." The word "suite" is very misleading.

Mini suites get the exact same perks as balcony cabins. No more, no less. It's just a larger cabin and fuller bathroom.

This is newly written and I think it's a misprint, unless they've changed things recently. At least that's how I understood things. I could be wrong. :p

No, I don't think I did, but the OP is free to read the information for herself and make up her own mind whether priority embarkation and a dining hotline of some type (48 hours in advance, versus concierge access) is something she'd like to have. I posted in a hurry earlier tonight, given the tone of the OP's first post and her intent of committing funds this evening -- I was trying to get her useful information. Based on her later posts, either there's been a change in NCL policy -- giving minisuites access to concierges -- or there's some confusion somewhere between the OP and her NCL rep. What's your take/input/helpful information to the OP?

my helpful information was to let her know that imo her rep IS giving her correct information

OP call your Rep again and please give us the correct information, since wording from the ncl website does not seem to be enough

The suites can book all the restaurants for all the nights at once.

Balconies/Mini-suites can book only for 2 days in advance.

I spoke with our cruise consultant today regarding this issue...I was told the mini-suites (AF) do NOT have priority embark/disembark nor do they have access to concierge or butler services. I was actually inquiring about the Gem (June, 2009) but I'm assuming this rule is fleet wide.

Perhaps there are new rules going into effect in 2010 or maybe there are special rules for those on B2B cruises.

Honestly, I have no idea who is right or wrong here! :o

Happy cruising!

Unless there's been a revamping of the mini-suite perks, I think once the OP gets on board, concierge service will not be available to them. I hope I'm wrong! I also don't think they'll get express disembarkation.

I think it's a misprint.

Also, the NCL reps. look at the same information we do, and I hate to say this, they are "sometimes" wrong. Let's just hope it's me that's wrong and not the rep. :)

Do not get too excited about boarding perks. You and a hundreds of latitudes members are also supposed to get that. And you get lumped into balconies for the other perks - not so great when half the ship is in the same category.

And I will never figure out what the big ho-hah is all about regarding walking you to the cabin. Not that hard to find.

Yeah, I have to agree about the boarding perks. The guy that had the Latitudes sign (wasn't there when we arrived) on our last cruise was holding it backwards. It wasn't until we were almost through the regular line that he turned it around.:D

One thing I can post with certainty is that on a B2B, when you are about to start the second leg of your B2B cruise and you have to get off the ship at the embarkation port, you are the very first to be escorted back to the ship no matter what catagory of cabin you are in. You have to leave the ship inbetween the two legs and you can either explore the embarkation port for a while or you can wait in the VIP lounge. I saw this with my own eyes and talked to a couple of ladys who were in the VIP lounge waiting to get back onboard and they told me they were on a B2B and also had an inside stateroom. They only get to do their two or three weeks of vacation all at once each year and can't break their vacation time up, so they always take B2B cruises and they said that was one of their favorite perks of the B2B was waiting in the VIP lounge and getting back onboard before anyone else. And when I say before anyone else, they were escorted back onboard at least 30 minutes before they started letting the suite guests onboard. I also think they got to go right back to their staterooms.

I've held off making the deposit. IMO, the "perks" especially since I already know I'm excluded from the best of them aren't the biggest deal in the world. I just want to know what I'm paying for....You'd think it would be easier than this.

When we booked our mini-suite, it was for the price and the extra square feet. I knew there were no significant perks -- no biggie for us, but there were three of us to the room so the extra space was a huge deal maker and the price was not much more than a balcony.

So far I've only done three cruises, one was a balcony, one was an inside, and lastly the mini-suite. I don't think I'll ever do an inside again but either a balcony or mini-suite based on the price difference at the time of booking.

One of these days (perhaps for that Hawaiian cruise) I'll do a Owner's Suite or Garden Villa to the Carib. :) One can dream.
