Snorkel in Bahamas

I know this has probably been asked a MILLION times, but I am having a hard time finding the answer. My husband and I are going on a 3 day cruise to Bahamas on March 3rd (Carnival) and want to snorkel. Where is the best place to do this without doing an excursion through the cruise? We think a beach would be best instead of doing the boat tour but if I would like to hear any and all ideas.

Thanks so much for your help :)

Hi,

You didn't say which islands in the Bahamas. Assuming Nassau, there isn't any shore snorkeling on the island, lots of beaches but sand's not a fun snorkel adventure. If you want a boat excursion, Stuart Cove's dive center has the best snorkeling trips (you can google them or search this forum). If you don't want to go with them then look for any snorkel company that goes to "Thunderball Reef", yes, where the James Bond movie by the same name was filmed. If you're going to Freeport or another island someone else will have to help you.
