dmndlil Posted February 25, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2009 Even though the Serenade sails later in the evening, you can still get to the port 11:00am, giving you the entire day on board. I have even heard that you can actually leave the ship after you are checked in to tour and return later. Maybe someone else can confirm if this is true. Papa T Posted February 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2009 11:00 is a good ballpark time for getting on the ship but it has sometimes been after 12 - depends on the immigration process for cruisers getting off of the ship. Note that rooms are generally not available until 1:00 pm but lunch at the WJ and a quick tour of the ship usually take care of the time.
Pomperaugrr Posted February 25, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2009 On our January 17 cruise, we arrived at the pier at 11:10, but we did not get into the terminal until about 11:40. Once inside, we were cleared through security, got our sea pass cards and were on board by 12:00. The year prior to that, we arrived at 11:15 and were on board by 11:30. It will vary each time, but an 11:15 arrival is usually a good bet. Enjoy the Serenade. It was only just over a month ago for us, but we sure miss that ship and crew. She's in great shape, so you should have a good time. Eric
polodad Posted February 25, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 25, 2009 we are sailing on Saturday but going to San Juan tomorrow! What time can we board the ship on Sat? A quick suggestion. Even though other posters have suggested arriving at 11, unless you enjoy standing in a hot humid environment I wouldn't recommend arriving until around 11:30. We made the error of arriving around 11:20 in San Juan and they had not opened the terminal yet. there are no seats outside and it was 95 degrees & 95% humidity. Not the optimum conditions for beginning an idyllic vacation. We would have been much better off to have arrived between 11:30 & 11:45 and entered the terminal. Just a word of caution. tiffstulips Posted February 25, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2009 I agree with an arrival time around 11:30 am. You will be on the ship by 12:00, you can have lunch and your cabin will be ready shortly! ENJOY!
pltag Posted February 26, 2009 #7 Share Posted February 26, 2009 unless you enjoy standing in a hot humid environment I wouldn't recommend arriving until around 11:30. I'll go a step further. We've sailed out of San Juan 3 times. We ask our hotel for a late check-out and don't get to the pier until 1:00 - 2:00. No lines, no risk of debarkation issues from the previous week's cruise, no waiting to get into your cabin. As for "getting the party started" we do that at the pool at the hotel. :D We go from curbside to poolside in 20-30 minutes.
