JJPacer Posted February 26, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2009 This is a thread on the Azamara message board. It has good information, and I thought others would like to educate themselves on how to protect themselves from the norovirus. I learned information that I did not know. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=935088

lambs2 Posted February 26, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 26, 2009 Gee...I never thought about the fact that when I bring disinfectant wipes for the doorknobs, toilet seat, faucets, etc. in my cabin that I am doing NOTHING to kill viruses - the main source of most colds, flu, etc. I am going to have to get some of the non-alcohol-based wipes mentioned in the highlighted thread (in #1) for my next trip! Sundagger Posted February 26, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 26, 2009 First, alcohol-based hand sanitizers DO KILL viruses - just not Norovirus (or other nonenveloped viruses). Keep using the alcohol sanitizers to reduce dangerous bacteria and viruses. Second, here's what I posted on the HAL board (I guess the OP is making the rounds of the CC boards). "Actually, there isn't a lot of GOOD information. As with most (all?) Norovirus threads, the bad information is more prevalent than good. After following link after link after link (I'm trying to be very well-versed on the topic), the only product that has PROVEN to be effective on Norovirus is Purell VF447 (now VF481). Unfortunately, it's not yet available in the US. There was a link to a UK site that sells the product. I've emailed GOJO, the maker of Purell, to see when/if the new product will be available. It's been registered with the NSF, but may not be through the FDA process. The other products mentioned aren't effective on Norovirus. I'm discounting one claim based on a Wikipedia article that has no data to back up the claim."
