Atlantis

My DH and I are leaving March 7 on the Gem to Florida and Bahamas. We booked the all day excursion at Atlantis. I have a couple of questions, if anyone can help. What beach at Atlantis to they bring you to? Also do they give you a locker or can you rent a locker, if we are there all day, how do you go into restaurants and casino in beach cover ups. Also, what to do with money, camera, etc while on the beach.

In Florida we are going over the Disney for the day, has anyone done this and if so was it worth the effort.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

No idea on Atlantis. We stayed there for 4 days. The aquariums are neat. If you are considering Disney World for a day, I wouldn't waste my time. We were there for 4 days in January and still didn't see it all. Many rides have a 2 - 3 hour wait. You can get a fastpass which can help but you can only get one every two hours. And the fast passes for the most popular rides were always gone by 11 am for the rest of the day. I wouldn't consider Disney as a shore excursion - it really requires more time to get your money worth. Just my opinion.

There are lockers to rent in the Visitors building. As for the beach .. it's the main beach on Cabbage Beach.. the same one that is public just up 100 feet or so.. if it's the beach you are looking to do... don't waste your money.. There's free access thru the pathway next to the RIU hotel. Cab is $4 for the dock. You can rent a chaise or umbrella for $10.. and vendors sell rum drinks and coconuts etc.

As for money, camera's etc.. you need to keep an eye on those things. With 8000 people or more on the property.. who knows ???

Thanks to both of you for your input. I definitely will forget Disney. As for Atlantis I really want to see the dig, casino and maybe shops. I keep hearing Atlantis is not to be missed. Any opinion on just jumping in a cab and going on our own for the day?

yes, you can jump in a cab or take the ferry. The DIGS aquarium is open to the public for an entry fee of $35 pp.

You can buy tickets in the casino at the center kiosk.

Casino and shopping are free.

Just a thought, if you are looking for something to do at Port Canaveral, pick one Disney destination, such as Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon and spend the day at one of those!! We love those places, but if you are going to the waterpark at Atlantis, then consider Sea World in Orlando, we love going back there, no matter how many times we have been, and there are coasters to ride there as well!

After all your help we decided to take a cab to Atlantis since the day before we get there we are at the beach all day at NCL private island (hopefully). We were going to change to space center but now hear that excursion is cancelled due to change in arrival time. So Orlando is still up in the air right now.

We were rerouted to Port Can. a few years back and had no pre-plans for anything, so we did book a trip to Universal Studios through the ship. It was a little pricey ($100 pp) included the bus trip (1 hour away) and the admission. We had a great time, there were short lines and the time at the park was more than ample to see and do everything. I'd be hesitant to go to any of the Disney parks since they do draw a larger crowd on a regular basis. Time of year was October.

I live outside of Orlando about 10 minutes from Disney and DH works for Universal. Right now the parks are not busy at all. I went to Universal yesterday for Mardi Gras and the line waits were only 10-30 minutes long. I would advise not going to any theme park on Saturday as it is busiest.....but right now is slow season.

Oh and in regards to the Atlantis.......depending on how many people in your party, it is cheaper to book a room at the Comfort Suites which allows all day access to everything at the Atlantis. Rooms right now are about $275.00 per room and would allow access for 4 to Atlantis. I have personally stayed there and loved it. If you have kids they would be in heaven. I have also tried to access the Atlantis on my own and it is pretty hard to get in as EVERY staff member instinctly and constantly look at your wrist to see your band is on. We managed to sneak in with a tour group and since I had already been there before I knew where I could and couldn't go, but it is tough to manage if you are a newbie!
