Carnival Pride - Ship Description

The exciting Carnival Pride is a 2003 addition to an entirely new style of "Fun Ships"--the Spirit class. The ship's revolutionary design means that 80 percent of the staterooms offer glorious ocean views; and of those, 80 percent have private balconies. At the center of the ship stands an 11-deck-high atrium, topped with a glass ceiling.

Wake up to a sunny new day with an energizing workout in the state-of-the-art gym. Or go for an invigorating run on the outdoor jogging track. Ask the ship's personal trainers to plan an exercise program for you. Or skip the workout and hit the deck. With acres of teak deck space, you'll find the ideal spot to enjoy the fresh sea air and soothing sunshine. You can also relax in the spa with a massage, steam, or beauty treatment. And kids are sure to love the fun atmosphere of the award-winning Camp Carnival program.

After a full day of fun, enjoy an elegant meal in the Empire Restaurant or relax with casual dinner in La Playa Grille. You many even want to celebrate a special night out in the intimate Nouveau Supper Club. As part of the spa program, the ship also offers dishes that are low in calories, fat, sodium, and cholesterol.

For nighttime entertainment, the Carnival Pride brings a bit of Vegas to the sea--catch a spectacular show in Pharaoh's Palace. Or visit the 12 bars and lounges throughout the ship, including the sing-along Shanghai Piano Bar, the jazzy Club Cool, and the sports fan's favorite, the Champion's Bar. Feeling lucky? You might win big at Louis XIV Casino, one of the largest at sea. Dancers will love the club Dancing, where music plays into the wee hours.

Carnival Pride, part of Carnival's delightful Spirit class of ships, offers a terrific blend of big-ship features in a mid-sized environment. "Where can you find the artwork of Raphael, DaVinci, Botticelli, and Michelangelo, and the architectural details of ancient Greece, Byzantine empires, Renaissance Italy, Beaux Arts France and Victorian England all under the same roof?" writes Jana Jones, a Cruise Critic contributor who recently reviewed

Scare yourself "silly"....on this Halloween sailing on the Carnival Pride!

Long, narrow, sleek as a knife and very fast, the 2,124-passenger Carnival Pride, launched in 2002, is the second ship in the cruise line's dual azipod-driven Spirit class. Carnival's long-time interior designer, Joe Farcus, chose Icons of Beauty as the ship's theme: beauty in life, beauty in art, beauty in the world's architecture, beauty in the human body and in the human spirit.

Kennedy Space Center

:) We were in Port Canaveral on Sunday September 21, 2008. We were on the Mariner of the Seas, and we were doing a back to back cruise. We did the Eastern Caribbean from September 14, and the Western Caribbean starting on September 21.

During our stay in Port Canaveral, we rented a car from Thrifty Car Rentals. They picked us up at the ship and shuttled us to their car rental store, about 4 miles away. When we returned the car to Thrifty, they again shuttled us back to the ship.

We rented a brand new Dodge Avenger for a total of $42.00 withunlimited mileage. We drove to the KennedySpaceCenter, about 10 miles away. We had a very enjoyable time at the SpaceCenter. We spent 5 hours at the Space Center, however we did not see it all. I believe that it would take the better part of 8 hours to see everything.

Kennedy Space Center Admission .................................................. ..

$38 adult/$28 child (ages 3-11) plus tax

TourKennedySpaceCenter, see IMAX® space movies and all exhibits and shows. Visit includes the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame with interactive space-flight simulators. Ticket valid for two days of admission (must be used within 7 days of first use).

This looks enticing, especially since Halloween is my DW's absolute favorite holiday and we live about 45 minutes from the port in Baltimore. However, I have a question and I don't mean to cause trouble, but the group prices are much higher than the Early Savor prices, and both prices include a $50 cancellation fee.

Early Savor pricing is currently $499, $579, & $649 for the same cabin categories that you have for $627, $742, & $867. That's a difference of betweem $256 & $436 per cabin depending upon category. I have never done a CC Group cruise before, so I have to ask what benefit (other than the $50pp obc & the champaign) would there be to booking through the group as opposed to directly with Carnival?

Thank you for the information. I went to Carnival's web site and attempted to book the Early Savor pricing. Here is the information that I received "5012 : The requested fare or category is not available. If alternates were not returned, please select another category and retry."

Wally

Please try it yourself and let me know?

I just tried it for cat. 8A and had no problem. It gave me cabin #5227 for a price of $1298 + $119.76 tax for a total of $1,417.76. I cancelled out before completing the booking. I did not try the other categories.

Hello Mad Man of Bethesda, :)

I immediately contacted our Cruise Critic Travel Agent. Here is her reply:

Hi Wally,

The early saver rate has become available on a lot Carnival Cruises and they can get the same rate in your group. The early saver have stipulations though. The full per person deposit is required at the time of the deposit and if they cancel for any reason, they will not receive a refund. They are also not entitled to any amenities if they book at that rate. You and anyone else interested in the lower early saver rate can convert so encourage people to book with the group if they want that rate. Not a lot of people book at the Early save if the sailing is too far out because of the stiff penalty.

Let me know if you would like to change to that rate as well. I hope this clears up any confusion.

Thank you,

Johna

Okay. I'll discuss this with my DW and then book with your group if it works out. In any case, I'm glad that I was able to bring this to your attention so that others in the group can take advantage of this lower rate and save some money.

I do have to take issue with one point Johna mentioned. To me, it doesn't appear that the "stiff penalty" with the Early Saver rate is any different than booking with the CC TA. Both cancellation penalties are $50 (unless I misread something). The rest of the deposit with Carnival under the Early Saver rate can be used for another cruise.
