dan40 Posted March 8, 2009 #76 Share Posted March 8, 2009 I think you will have a good time in Jamaica. I have only been to Mo Bay, but will be going to Ochos Rios on my Oct. cruise. Yes the people are pushy and in your face, more so I have found than most, but never had one I couldn't deal with by holding up my hand and saying "No Thanks" and walking away ENJOY:) By the way , where in CT are you? I am in Stratford :) I have had, MORE THAN ONCE, the experience, ONLY in Jamaica, of vendors THROWING merchandise at my chest so I would have to catch it as it bounced off. Then they try to NOT take it back from me. Like I touched it, I have to buy it. The cure was to simply open my hands and let their merchandise drop on the ground, all the while maintaining strong eye to eye contact, and a war face. NOT what I want to do on a cruise. Once was too often, the second time I wrote the place off as a waste of my time. Way TOO MANY nice places to visit. Dan

Wolfie48 Posted March 8, 2009 #79 Share Posted March 8, 2009 Tell me of any bar anywhere that is as well turned out, as well kept, is as clean, has equal ambiance and equal service, as the cruise ship bars do, that DOES NOT charge $5.00 for a bottle of beer. If you want to pay RON'S ROACH HOUSE BAR prices, DRINK at RON'S ROACH HOUSE!! Or wait until you get to Jamaica and go to a local joint where you can get a RS for $1. US. And robbed, pick pocketed, knifed, etc., but cheep beer!!! Dan Isn't there a cover charge at RON"S ROACH HOUSE? After all he has to feed the roaches:rolleyes:

mcarlson Posted March 8, 2009 #84 Share Posted March 8, 2009 Hi Megan - (my grandmother (her last name was Hanham) is from newfoundland & I really want to go there soon!)Anyway, I am really looking forward to Jamaica,,,,we are doing Dunn's & Bamboo Beach Club. However, taping the Red Stripe to my legs seems a little tricky/uncomfortable and somewhat dangerous. Where in Africa were you living and for how long? Hello! Newfoundland is a beautiful province, you should visit us, it's certainly a unique and strong culture!! and, we know how to have a good time which always helps ; ) lol I guess I shouldn't technically say "lived there" I spent a month there.... however I ALWAYS say lived there because it is completely my other home forever. I loved it there and miss it so much! I was living (volunteering) in Kenya for the month of June 2007. It is such a different culture, but definitely for the better! It was so much harder adjusting back to life here in North America then adapting to living there! Perhaps that's why I loved Jamaica so much, it's such a real place. I know you cruise for relaxation, etc, but in my opinion the cruise portion provided me with that, I wanted to know the places I went and Jamaica definitely gives you a sense of what life there is like. It was wonderful, and it is high on my places to visit again. I know you'll love it as long as you go with an open heart, an open mind and remind yourself to always put safety first! It's different, I won't lie, but it is the kind of place that expands your borders and I am SO happy it was included as a port of call on my cruise! As for the taping of the Red Stripe.... lol I completely do not recommend that it sounds like it could result in horrible things.... or at least painful ones! The trick is to drink a LOT of them before boarding the ship.... messy but at least you get your fill ;)

Now after 3500 posts I wouldn't know what else to call myself *LOL* But i will pass your birthday salutations on to her :) And a happy birthday to you too. glrounds Posted March 8, 2009 #87 Share Posted March 8, 2009 Hey Gary - What "extras" does a cruise ship offer that we are not already paying for? Just curious. PS In NYC, if you didn't have the lime in your Corona it would have only been $9.00;) LOL . . . let's see . . . ocean breezes and views on the Aft Lido of any Spirit classed ship . . . pristine conditions . . . gorgeous chickadees . . . security . . . excellent PLATINUM service . . . excellent buffet ANYTIME through the door.:D Maybe beer has skyrocketed since my last cruise on the SPIRIT some 2 years ago, but most of their beers were $2.95 plus 15% gratuity for a total of $3.39 . . . plastic "glass" and all.

nixie Posted March 8, 2009 #93 Share Posted March 8, 2009 The "NO GLASS" rule is only on the pool decks. The bars inside the ship, lobby, sports bar, etc. will serve a 'glass' glass with your beer and in the glass bottle if it comes that way. On some ships they have draft beer in those bars. [in real glass] By the way, NO BEER is brewed to be drank from the bottle. They are all made to be poured into a glass with some head. Dan Is beer frree on the cruise? DanusLight Posted March 8, 2009 #95 Share Posted March 8, 2009 Is beer frree on the cruise? Nothing is free. The alcohol is not free. Soda is not free. Specialty coffee is not free. The casino is not free. Merchandise in the shops is not free. Photos are not free. And maybe by the time you sail the cruise line will implement a charge for going down the slide, each glass you use, each towel you use, each eating utensil you use, using the elevators and turning on the lights. You won a free cruise and you want more free stuff? How are you getting to the port? Are you going to carry your own luggage on board? Because if you use the porters at the pier, they expect a tip too ... unless you want WET luggage. I knew the world was leading with a 'gimme' state of mind but this is ridiculous.
