ramsam Posted March 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2009 Hello, I would like to take the hydrofoil from naple to sorrento and then back. I've read in previous posts that sometimes the hydrofoil gets cancelled because of bad weather. I'd like to have a plan b handy. would taxis be available in sorrento (if so where?) Also where exactly is the station? will easily find it? thank you in advance
nparmelee Posted March 12, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2009 The Circumvesuviana train would be a good backup. Trains run every half hour or so and take an hour and a half roughly, some are quicker. A taxi would be a second backup.
ramsam Posted March 12, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted March 12, 2009 thank you for your reply. Is the sorrento station easy to find? also, what is the name for the stop I want in Naples. There seems to be so many.
luvcdays Posted March 12, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2009 Don't they still run the ferries from Sorrento to Naples if the weather is too bad for the hydrafoils? Thanks
GSPLover Posted March 12, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 12, 2009 thank you for your reply. Is the sorrento station easy to find? also, what is the name for the stop I want in Naples. There seems to be so many. Station is very easy to find. About 3 blocks north of the central plaza and one block to the east - sits up on a hill. Station in Naples is Garibaldi (Stazione Centrale FS). Circumvesuviana trains are on the lower level. Trenitalia (FS) trains on the street level. janchor Posted March 12, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2009 We ran into this situation last May. Took the hydro foil to Capri--very,very rough. (We paid cash so not sure about Credit Cards). Then they cancelled the return trip. The big ferries were still running but the timing was not good for us to get back to the ship. So we took the 20 minute ferry ride to Sorrento. Form there we climbed the stairs and just asked around for the train station. When we got out of the station we looked for #1 bus but could not locate it so we walked back--about 30 minutes. NO problems apart from trying to cross one busy road--that was wild!!!!
ramsam Posted March 12, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted March 12, 2009 janchor...wow! I really want to do this on my own but this is the sort of thing that scares me a bit. How did you find your way to port? What is it called if I wanted to ask for directions? were any taxis available at station or nearby? Thank you
janchor Posted March 12, 2009 #10 Share Posted March 12, 2009 The main port is Molo Bevellero and we just asked someone to point us in the right direction.( My husband speaks Italian). You can follow the main road down to the port. I believe we turned left when we got out of the station. We were not really sure where we were going but could see ships and various working ports off to the left so we figured we were on the right path. And I always have maps with me which help--you can always point to something on the map if you don't find an English speaking local and figure it all out by pointing!!!!! CruzinFamilyof5 Posted April 4, 2009 #13 Share Posted April 4, 2009 This all sounds very exciting. Would the seas be rough in mid June?
