Cruising Crew Posted March 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2009 Hi - does anyone have a copy of the current wine list on Princess? We thought we may try a bottle or two before joining the ship - in the interest of research of course! Thanks

Av8tor Posted March 12, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2009 That was a very comprehensive list, but if you're on one of the newer ships, the wine bar, Vines, has additional selections available by the glass or the bottle...

westwind6371 Posted March 14, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 14, 2009 Hello to all; The list posted by crusdiva, assembled by Largin is the most recent of the two posted. Overall I find Princess wine lists are a bargain compared to other lines and upscale dining establishments. Some of the higher priced wines are close to what I pay at home in wine shops. fair winds Dave
susiefay Posted March 14, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 14, 2009 We just got off the Grand yesterday:( The wine list posted here is pretty comprehensive, however the prices are higher. Princess still has one of the best priced wines we have ever seen on a ship. We love the Don Maximiano from Chile, hard to find many places, and the price for that one (listed at $72.00) is now $85.00. Very hard to fine anywhere and retail is $65.00 when you can get it, so not too bad for a "restaurant" charge. One thing that was disturbing, was we had brought some of this wine onboard and our server got very upset that we didn't purchase it from them. We had no problem with the corkage fee, which they didn't charge us, but her attitude was out of line, we thought. So we just drank it on our cabin:D Great cruise, btw, the Grand is still a great ship and the crew was wonderful. There are 2 wine tastings onboard, the second one having more upscale wines, some good ones at that one to try. Enjoy:D
themerle Posted March 14, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 14, 2009 What was the charge for the wine tastings?
sultan_sfo Posted March 14, 2009 #9 Share Posted March 14, 2009 The cheap one $9.50 pp. The Maitre D' version with appetizers and better wines $25pp. Tables are set up selling them outside the buffet. Also, the dining room waiters may push both aggressively because they get some bonus points for the sale. But if one is going to book anyway, then booking with the waiter makes them grateful. But sign-up for the "fun" not the wines. What was the charge for the wine tastings?

There are 2 wine tastings onboard, the second one having more upscale wines, some good ones at that one to try. Enjoy:D We agree that Don Maximiano is a nice wine. The price on Princess is within the normal range of Carnival Corp.'s mark-up, i.e. 100-200%. If you like Don Maximiano, you can certainly get it retail for much less than $65. Here's a link where you can get it for $39.99. http://www.wineglobe.com/donmax03.html It's too bad that Carnival Corp with its tremendous buying power doesn't pass on some of the huge savings it gets on wines to the pax and instead charges 2 to 3 times the average retail price. One of our biggest complaints about Princess is how hard it can be on some of their ships to get a red wine glasses. (If this is one of our biggest complaints, we really don't have much to complain about, do we?) However, it's a minor problem...when the waiters balk at getting you a red wine glass, a water glass works OK. We've also found that when the waiter doesn't seem happy serving the wine you brought to the dining room, just pour it in your room and take the filled wine glasses to the dining room. susiefay Posted March 15, 2009 #11 Share Posted March 15, 2009 thanks for the link to get the wine. the biggest problem we have is that wine cannot be shipped to massachusetts!! so we had a case sent we found online for $20 a bottle, (must have been a fluke!), to my inlaws in florida and picked it up on the way to the pier. Worked out very well:D
