VIP Check in... what does it entail

What are the benefits of the VIP check in with carnival? Do we get a quicker check in or something?

Thanks

There will be a separate line that you go in, and you get to go ahead in the security line. It IS faster, unless there are a LOT of people in the VIP part, then it might go a little slow, but to ME, VIP is definitely worth it! I have always been VIP when I have cruised, because I've had suites, or been with someone who was VIP!

You get to bypass what seems like a thousand people and sit in a little office with a much shorter line while the carnival rep confirms your ID and s&s credit card info.It takes 5 minutes unless you are an idiot like the lady in front of me who had no idea why her credit card was needed as she allready paid for the cruise.

The non-vip line looked long but there were so many reps serving them I'll bet it didn't take much longer time wise.

Depends on the port. But normally, you get to the head of the security line for screening of carry-on..xray..body scan etc. So, if there is a big line for screening..ask someone about VIP check in..they'll open up a rope and move you to front.

Then instead of waiting in the line with the others for room card..etc, there's another area usually with seating were you can relax a bit until called and then they give you SS card. After that you're in the main lines again.

Depending on the port that 'VIP" area can be rather nice..sofas, coffee, snacks, or just a another room with less people waiting.

We've used VIP check-in for Tampa, Port Canaveral, and Port Everglades (soon to be Miami as well.) In our experience, the VIP boarding saved us a lot of time since they had Carnival agents escort us to the front of the line to get on the ship after we received our S&S cards in the separate lounge area. However, I have to say that the regular lines seem to go pretty quickly.

When we sailed out of Norfolk, they were taken to a seperate room, did their S&S, were escorted to the front of security, and then escorted from security to the other side of the "regular" checkin lines for S&S for their welcome aboard photos. Being a newbie I was rather impressed by how the rep. stayed with them all the way to the ship and then told them to enjoy their trip.

I want to get to the Pursers desk ASAP so I can get a HMC cabana... will the VIP status help me out?

The Pursers Platinum line will only get you in line faster if you are also Platinum. Are you getting VIP check in because of a suite or will this be your 10th Carnival cruise? VIP & Platinum are a bit different.

Because of a suite. I guess I just want to get to the Pursers desk ASAP.

Did you also check to see if you can book the cabana online, seems like I remember you can. Have you registered on carnival.com? If not have your booing# & set it up. You'll then be able to see what is available in Half Moon Cay that day. You may also want to check out the private island port of call thread & see what people say about the cabana's. Just saw you are only two days out, you may not be able to add excursions online, seems like a week or so is the cut off. Have fun!!!! I love the Fantasy class ships.

From what I have read on here, Carnival doesn't book Cabanas online. I have everything set up online already, but haven't been to HMC on any of the other cruises I have been on.

i think the poster is talking about the quickness of the line once she gets aboard.

in response to that: i have seen that line be very long after i go through a reg check in, which reg check in didn't even take that long! it's because people rush that desk to get second keys for adjoining cabins, get put on lists to get balcony dividers opened, and some complain before they even set their carry on bag down, about dining room tips.

when i have boarded VIP, that line is generally very, very short. so yes, you have a much better chance of getting service quickly if you go through vip and are there as soon as embarkation begins. however, i don't think they book shore excursions right away, but cld be wrong. they may just refer you to the shore excursions desk once that desk opens.

Purser won't do you any good to book HMC cabana. You will have to go to the Excursion Desk. Depending on what ship you are on, it should be across the lobby or next to it.

Thanks... That just saved me a ton of time and headaches!

Has anyone booked a Cabana at HMC?

but the shore excursions desk will likely be closed. i'd be very surprised if it weren't. the purser does take payment for, and book, shore excursions when that desk is closed.

however, i doubt very much that they do this on embarkation considering all the other stuff they need to deal with. i think that poster will have to look for the desk times and get there as soon as it opens. if the purser's desk line is not long when s/he boards, then there is no harm waiting to ask. if it's long, i wld skip it b/c i cld see him/her waiting for naught.

Go to the Private Island Port of call thread, I'm sure you can find someone there to answer more specific questions. That's what I did on my last Princess cruise & after reading all the pros & cons decided not to. I haven't paid any attention to Half Moon Cay cabanas because we have always had our sone with us & need to be closer to the action. it is beautiful though!!! Try this link: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=859505 I just skimmed over it & I just lots of info. including where & how to book.
