Do I have to get back on the ship in Cozumel?

How does this screw anything up?

Simple, people not getting back on and not letting anyone know. If everyone did that then the next thing you know you will only be aloud off the ship on escorted excursions. Just get on and off the ship like everyone else.

I'm not sure what I'd do... And I'm not sure I'd even have the stones to do anything.

"Make love on a beach" is on my bucket list. I'm much more likely to talk the better half into joining me if it's after dark.

Most of the Mardi Gras/Carnival parties on Cozumel last time were after the ships all left dock. And I've heard that island life gets much more wild after dark in many places. I wouldn't bother with a hotel... I'd just spend the whole night living it up.

I say this like I'm 20 years old again. Still it's nice to know it's an option should I decide to make it an all-nighter.

I think it is a GREAT idea, and I haven't seen my 20's in awhile. The weather would be my only concern.....because even if I needed to catch catnaps on the beach no biggie if the weather is good.

The majority of people said to let Carnival know so that they don't hold the ship or try to find you. The only problem that Carnival might have with the idea is the loss of revenue of having you hostage for 12 hours to drink and gamble. And yes anyone deciding to try it should have a passport and know that it is possible that the ship might not be at the next port due to weather and/or and emergency.

I have never read anything in the cruise contract to the effect that you have to return to the ship or else must fly home. I believe you could notify the purser and then do what you want to.

The ship really does not care, as long as you do not inconvenience them!

I'm not looking to take any of my stuff off the ship, and I'm planning to make the round-trip to Mobile. I'm just wondering if I can "miss the boat", then catch it in the next port of call (a whopping 15 miles across the channel).

Why does it take a cruise ship that travels at 23 knots more than 12 hours to reach a port only 15 miles away?

Casinos and shopping on board as well as alcohol

As a person who has spent many nights on Cozumel, I'm afraid I've got bad news. Actually the island is pretty quiet after the cruise ships pull out. Most everyone left is either a diver or a local and they're all tired after their dive trips or from working with tourists. It's not dead, but it would be a lot livlier on board the ship.

Cancun is much wilder after dark and also a better place to check off that bucket list item IMO.

On a three night Bahamas cruise on Fascination years ago, we had dinner on the first night with a couple who were on their way to the Bahamas to gamble. They discovered their last minute cruise fare was cheaper than flying to Nassau from Miami. When we arrived in Nassau the next morning, they were off the ship for good.
