All things Splendor!

To all the Splendor past guest, I have anothe question.;)

When I was on the Miracle in February, there was a card / game room that had designated times it was open with games and cards. You could play during the times it was opened in there, or check it out. There was cards, uno, rummikub, dominoes, etc. It was really nice because at different areas of the ship, people were playing different games. Of course, I know there is a casino, but that is not what I am asking.;)

Thanks, just curious!

We just returned on the 14th of June. Since the cruise departing yesterday will be the last to visit Canada I can't see talking about the ports though they were beautiful.

We had a Cat 8B (6347) on Deck 6 and though we were above public rooms we didn't have any noise in our cabin. We had most of our dinners in the Black Pearl except for the single dinner at the alternative restaurant which was truly outstanding.

The ship was fully booked but with some exceptions I never felt the ship was overly crowded. We enjoyed breakfast at both the Lido and the dining room. Though the dining room was better I didn't suffer at the Lido. Same for lunch.

Dinners in the dining room were great with a very involved Maitre D. I can't remember his name right now but he was from Greece. I've never tipped a Maitre D before but did on this cruise. The waiters were outstanding and the food great. The ship did not have "anytime dining."

Our cabin stewards were great. I don't know how they did it but our cabin was always in great shape when we returned. Our ice bucket was kept full.

Carnaval's greatest attribute in my opinion is the great service you receive from everyone ranging from the guys cleaning the decks in the morning, to the cabin stewards, to the bar and dining room waiters, etc. Everyone was friendly!

The only down side of the cruise was the high volume coming out of the lobby on Deck 3. they normally had a duet singing in the evening and though they were good, the volume on the speakers must of been maxed out. It was so hard to carry on a conversation when they were performing. Related to this, it was hard to find a bar or lounge that was quiet with some mellow music playing at a normal volume.

Would I return to this ship? Without hesitation. The ship was great and service was superior. I still want to go to the Mexican Riveria!

We were also on the June 7 sailing. We had two aft balcony cabins, 7444 and 7446. 7446 was narrower by about eight inches (yes, I measured:o:D) and the 'hallway' formed by the closets and bathroom wall was extremely narrow. 7453 was the same way.

I didn't notice pink, just circles and spheres everywhere.

The food was like the girl with the curl-- When it was good it was very very good. When it was bad, it was horrid.

thanks cushing and yogi for the updates. Did you go in the piano room? I like to go in there but most cruises have to much smoke in so tend to only pass through. I think it has a lot of smoke cause it is usually one of the places that smokers can smoke; there and the casino.

I did not but my daughter and boyfriend both did on most nights. According to them it did tend to get smokey in there. As far as smoking goes on the Splendor...it never bothered me. Most of the smokers did their thing outside on the starboard side of the ship and I never was affected by it (have to be a forest fire before it would have any effect on me). Even the casino wasn't overly smokey. I had a balcony cabin and didn't smell any smoke while out there.

Anyway, you'll have a great cruise even if you're sensitive to smoke. The smokers on this cruise, at least, were considerate and followed the rules which is all you can ask.

Piano bar has been the only place I have had trouble so far, but I have eye alleries and smoke usually irritates them. I usually dont go in the casino, so that is a perfect place for extra smoke. ;)

thank you all for the info :)

i was hoping to find a thread like this , because it is our first time on carnival and i keep wondering the differences ;)

i am super excited for this cruise , love to try something new

does anybody have any input on the L shaped cabins on the side of ship just before the aft wraps ? or pictures perhaps ? they seem to have a double length balcony and a room that seems to be a standard room, only sideways

I have had one before and am booked on one again for the Miracle. We love them! I couldnt get it on my last cruise and that is why we werent in one. I think we have pictures; I will try tomorrow and see if they are in my computer or my husbands. As far as the shape, the balconies are like double the width, but the same depth, I guess would be a good way to describe it. The cabin has a different shape from the standard rooms, but we prefered it. They usually only sleep two; as least that it how it was on the ships I looked at!

theseyb and mrvideo,

I hope we have the same maitre'd as you both had, but I doubt that he will still beon the same ship in 10 months.

Mr. video, how was it to be on the ship for 49 days?

Would you believe not nearly my longest cruise 2007 105 days on the Amsterdam World Cruise and 114 days 2010 World Cruise on the Amsterdam.

The above looked like bragging when I relooked at it. You should never go on a long cruise and expect the cruise line to be your sole entertainment. I blog mrvideo1949.spaces.live.com . Gloria writes and does crafts:

She and I has taught crafts (specializing in hand made greeting cards) on many cruises, Gloria also lecturers on scarf tying.
