As You Wish Posted March 24, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 24, 2009 The casino--my husband won $2000 on the quarter slots there. The specialty restaurant is incredible and worth every penny.
MamaParrotHead Posted March 24, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 24, 2009 Well, we haven't been on Glory (YET...250 days, LOL) but have been to some of the ports. Cozumel is one of my favorite ports...so laid back and family friendly. And everything is reasonably priced. Paradise Beach was awesome...the food, drinks and service were excellent and prices MORE than reasonable. Nassau was OK...I'd love to get back there and get some conch and either hang at one of the resorts on a day pass (British Colonial Hilton, and there are one or two others) or nose around Atlantis and check out their aquarium. Sign up for the Travelzoo emails and they often have great specials on the Comfort Suites there (where their guests have privileges at the Atlantis facilities). A&Jfamily Posted March 24, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 24, 2009 DH and I are sailing on the Glory on 8/22. This is my 4th cruise, his 2nd, but our first with just the two of us. Tell me your absolute favorite thing about the ship or the itinerary. Something that we shouldn't miss. TIA!:) Haven't been on the Glory, but her sister, the Valor, on the Western route. Looks like your ports (with my recomendations following) are: Nassau - not my favorite port as it is getting run down. Paradise Island/Atlantis are great though. We did the zoo with the kids last time for about 2 hours and enjoyed that. Next trip, we plan on Blackbeard's Caye - stingray snorkel. Costa Maya - haven't been since rebuild, but when there, we did the ruins @ Chachobeen. Very nice. Also, enjoyed just hanging out at the pool. Cozumel - best excursion yet - dolphin swim @ Chankanaab park. Such a beautiful place and you have the day to enjoy it. Book privately - much cheaper. It's just a short cab ride from the pier. Belize - need to do a snorkel or ruin thing here...there isn't much to Belize city in the tourist area. Outside that fence, things get rough. We did Goff's Caye and Sgts. Caye/Magrove Snorkel. Have also heard that river tour/Atun Ha was good. Have a great trip...unfortunately, you are missing our favorite port Roatan...if you ever get there Tabayana beach is beautiful, as is Gumbalimba park with the monkeys. okgirl Posted March 24, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 24, 2009 Don't miss the fish-n-chips, upstairs (deck 10) from the Lido buffet. If you go up the stairs from the dessert table it's right there. Very yummy!!! I guess the other best thing about the Glory would be to make it a B2B with the Eastern itinerary. We did this last year and had a blast. fllady61 Posted March 24, 2009 #9 Share Posted March 24, 2009 we have only done western once, and it stopped in freeport. not a good spot to stop, since stopped that port. now going to rotan. my favorite things about western cruise was just to be cruising. not too fond of the ports, mainly because of the armed guards everywhere we went. especially in belieze. did not care for the tender ride into belieze either. i get sea sick. many pills were swallowed that day. one at breakfast, one right before getting off the ship, one once on land, and one when we got back to the shp. that was a rough ride. tender nearly stood on it's butt going from the ship to shore. Costa Maya was a good port, but don't let them talk you into braiding your hair. told me 25$ and cost me 130 in the end. 25$ was for about 2 braids on the top of the head. Cozumel was good. We only did the port shops, but at all 3 ports, with the exception of the hair braiding, it was great. If you drink whiskey, get you some of the Belieze made whiskey. A little shop there in the port village. excellent. like I said, when we did western, it as freeport. so what can one say about freeport. I am glad that it no longer stops there. I am glad that it no longer stops there. there is more. here is a basic layout of the ship. deck 1 cabins deck 2 cabins deck 3 main lobby, cigar bar, and cyber cafe, cabins, platinum and golden dining, and art gallery, main access to theater deck 4 platinum and golden dining, photo shop, and a few bars access to theater, deck 5, casino, access to theater, gift shop, formalities, jewlery shop, club 02(teen club), piano bar, karokee bar deck 6 - 8 cabins only deck 9, red sail dining, deli, chinese, pools, pizzeria, grill, cabins deck 10, cabins, surmer (fish and chips), supper club deck 11 spa, shuffle board, camp carnival, circle c (I think) deck 12 basket ball, track, mini golf No access from aft to fwd of ship on deck 3 or 4. access to platinum dining through second set of elevators from aft only. we learned that the hard way. Get a map of the ship when boarding, and study it while you are waiting on your cabin. If you get a chance, meet Butch, the cruise director. he is so sweet. he is not one to hide except for when he is required. he is out with the crowd talking to guest. he also has a morning show on the tv. we did not find this out till something like Wednesday. The Captain is sweet also. he was our captain on all 3 glory cruises. This is by far, our favorite ship. Sorry to see her leave Port Canaveral this year. She will be in New York for a while then maybe Miami. not certain on that. But we have the Dream to look forward to. Have loads of fun.

Be sure to go to the omelet station every morning at the red sail restaurant. They do a great job with with the buffett on that ship. Greg
amio111 Posted March 25, 2009 #14 Share Posted March 25, 2009 you have to be up on the upper decks coming into Nassau. Go early to watch the ship come into port. Beautiful scenery, lighthouse, rich homes. The water is gorgeous! I think this is the most scenic port to come into.
