Piano Bars - All Smoking?

John&John

Recommended Posts

Just off the Freedom. Tried to go into the Piano bar twice......the smoke chased us out. Hey, Carnival....wake up, stop smoking altogether on the ship, or invest in some better exhaust systems, especially in the little areas like the disco and piano bar. For that matter, just walking past the casino was gagging. We could never walk by the port side of the lido deck either with all the smoke killing the fresh sea air!

Carnival already tried a nonsmoking ship with Paradise a few years ago.......and lost their azz.

I know. I should have asked. Does anyone know if there is a bar or lounge that is non-smoking? We planned this trip for our two daughters' birthday(born same date, four years apart) and one has asthma. They've been looking forward to live music and dancing. Can anyone give me some information, please? How about the restaurant on the Lido deck?

Just off the Elation last week. There are some smoking areas outdoors. Indoors the smoking areas are parts of the Drama (Casino) bar, the Piano Bar (this is where the afternoon tea is held), the Cigar Bar outside the aft lounge (karoake lounge) on 9 and the Casino. There were non smoking areas in the casino, but the smoke was still present. Everywhere else in non smoking, this includes the dining room, lido buffet and the discos.

On the Paradise recently the casino smoking policy is a bit different. Smoking is allowed on the 3 day cruises and no smoking on the four day.

The needs or wants of many (nonsmokers), do not out weigh the needs or wants of a few (smokers)! If you dont like smoke, dont go where smoke is! Pretty simple. :p

Jeez! Didn't Mr. Spock say something like that?????:D

Ooooo, Nooo MrBill!!! Wake up. There are other cruise companies and ships where smoking is strictly restricted or prohibited. Try one.......:D

The recent increase in tobacco taxes and the FDA probably getting a role in regulating tobacco may have an impact.

It's impacted many of my smoking friends..... Most currently buy their smokes out of a trunk in certain areas of Philadelphia...for 15.00 a carton. Others make a trip to relatively close reservations......

The black market in cigarettes is growing by leaps and bounds...... Currently in NJ, with tax, a carton is 67.00!!!!! Nobody in their right mind will pay that for cigarettes when there are "alternatives".....

Leave it to our "leaders" to grow an already huge smuggling problem.

They didn't loose their ass:rolleyes: It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that only one non smoking ship would work......people need variety.....

Would you cruise on the same ship and same itinerary every vacation:confused: I doubt it.........

If Carnival was able to improve the ventilation in the Piano bar that would make a huge difference.

Smokers and non-smokers could play nice together :D

Smoke never bothers me (unless it's going right up my nose) in Las Vegas casinos. They have great ventilation.

You can't fix stupid, but you can sure tax the bejesus out of it.

Look for crackdown on bootleg cigarettes.

The idea of "fairness" being the measure for these policies is pretty laughable to me. They should and will make decisions that will maximize their profits. Will they take in more money by making some nights in the piano bar non-smoking? If so, they should do it. If not, they shouldn't. It's pretty simple.

I can't imagine that you might be buying those cigarettes...;)

I don't. I'm a nonsmoker...but have many friends and family members who do.......

For the record, I believe that smoking/nonsmoking policies are completely fair. Everyone has a choice to cruise or not based on the policy of a particular ship or cruise line. Going on a ship where it is permitted and the policy is generous - when one is a rabid anti-smoking person - is simply not understandable. Going - and then complaining about it is silly.

There are so many options available; so many cruise companies that have either nonsmoking policies or where smoking is severly restricted to a few outside areas only. It amazes me that with choices, nonsmokers who are truly bothered by the habit continue to cruise on ships where it's permitted.

Smoking policies (as far as which bars/lounges and I've even heard casinos) varies from ship to ship.

Rabid anti-smoking person? Well, I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. Even those that complain about it afterward. ;)

Your belief that smoking/non-smoking is completely fair - everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I realize that there are many choices, but here we are discussing Carnival and the specific smoking policies of their Piano bars.

There are alternative bars/lounges that are non-smoking, but none duplicate the experience in the Piano Bars.

For the record, I believe that every guest should be able to enjoy everything that the cruise has to offer, including the Piano Bar experience, without having to expose themselves to something that has been proven to be detrimental to one's health.

They could care less about the piano bar. It isn't a money maker. No money is made there except bar service. It's obvious that the money making area of the ship for smokers is the casino. Next are the bars, where they allow smoking. Carnival isn't stupid. They don't want to run off their smokers, Carnival realizes the smokers make a profit for them.

My feelings are like this. A smoker goes where he can smoke, therefore a non-smoker should go where there isn't smoke. I smoke, but I understand and comprehend I can't smoke in the dining room, show lounges, etc, and I still go there. Then when I leave there, I elect to go to a place where I can smoke, either casnio or one of the bars. Pretty easy to understand. If you don't like smoke, do go where it's smokey!

Umm...... you are completely wrong here. As far as bars on the ship go, the piano bar is one of the most profitable (considering there are only two servers and they have a good performer of course :p ). This bar routinely out sells other venues that are more then double it's size. There are also plenty of people who cruise Carnival because of their piano bars... It's one of their "signature icons"..... I'm sure they care quite a bit about them..... A LOT of money (repeat cruisers) is made there.....

Oh noo....this is why 60% of my S&S bill has the piano bar listed on it :p

I feel bad for the entertainers. It bad enough that they are now being asked to sing for 5 hours, but to have to do in in a smoke filled room is tough. An improved ventalation system would help everyone, however I don't see Carnival spending the $$$ necessary to do that now. :(
