THere will be 7 of us including kids ages 9-13. National Car has a location at "Founders hall" is this close to the docks? Any advice would be appreciated. Ephraim Posted March 28, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 28, 2009 Founder's hall isn't too far from the port. Founder's Hall is at 6 Prince Street. Couldn't really be much closer. They also offer a number of walking tours from there. There are just so many wonderful things to do in PEI. Anne of Green Gables. The beach. Lobster dinner. Sea Kayak. The founding of Canada. Province House. The miniature. The trains. The lighthouses. Nature (I loved watching the hummingbirds!) Just so much to do on such a small island. You can call and expert for free. 1-800-463-4PEI and they will be more than happy to find something for 7 people to do together or even send you a book telling you about everything there is to do. eh2zed Posted March 29, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 29, 2009 Founders Hall is close to the pier. We rented from Budget and they picked us up at the pier. We drove to see the Confederation Bridge, Cavendish, PEI Preserve Company. Walked back to the ship thru the downtown from the Budget agency location. Great day
shirljean Posted March 29, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 29, 2009 Hey Ephraim, we meet again. You say lighthouses on PEI - are they near the cruise port, or would one have to be on a tour to be able to see them? Hubby is a big lighthouse enthusiast & we have a horse drawn carriage tour planned.
Ephraim Posted March 29, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 29, 2009 The list is at http://www.gov.pe.ca/infopei/index.php3?number=66290 There are a number of lighthouses near Charlottetown. We went all the way out to the East Point lighthouse, ourselves. But they dot the island all the way around.
shirljean Posted March 29, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 29, 2009 Wow! Ephraim, you should have seen my husband jump out of his easy chair, when I showed him that list. :) Thanks again!
lroche_nf Posted March 31, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 31, 2009 Go to Green Gables if you have time. I would never go to PEI and miss Green Gables.

It's also a soft Ch and pronounced 'Shar-le-town' not 'Char-lut-town' To quote Johnny Carson, "I did not know that." I'll let DW know. She's totally psyched about the whole Anne of Green Gables thing. Thanks.

We went all the way out to the East Point lighthouse, ourselves. But they dot the island all the way around. Ephraim, thanks for the link to the lighthouse map. I noticed that there are three routes identified on the map. If you did the eastern one, how long did it take you? Did you go all the way around? Hi to Melanie and TrinTrav. Maybe we should think "convoy" since we'll be there the same day. :)
Ephraim Posted May 2, 2009 #12 Share Posted May 2, 2009 We stayed in Brackley Point and it was about an hour to an hour and a half to Souris, probably the same from Charlottetown. Maybe another 20 minutes or so to East Point. We stoped in Souris to go to the singing sand beach. Just so you understand the scale of PEI, from Tignish in the north-west corner to East Point in the north-east corner is about 3.5 hours by car. We didn't follow any particular route, just got in the car to spend the day on the east coast and see the area and enjoy dinner at the famous Inn at Bay Fortune. First time I got to see hummingbirds up close, too.
Cruise_More_Often Posted May 3, 2009 #13 Share Posted May 3, 2009 Thanks so much, Ephraim! I just looked on a map, and not knowing the size of the island, it certainly looks much farther than that. Looks like we could probably see a lot of lighthouses during a day's ride. I'm definitely interested.
