Id for drinks

Hey im 21, but ill be going with a bro an a cousin both 19..I was wondering how do they check ID...is it your sail card where ur age is encoded or whatever or do they actually wana see a drivers license

 

im assuming the easiest way would be just buy drinks myself and give em to my bro or cousin (not much maybe a few over the whole cruise)

If my memory serves me, your Set Sail (or Sea Pass) will indicate whether or not you are under 21.

The setsail pass is not sufficient if they want to confirm your age. They would not accept that from my son when he was at the casino with me.

You need proper 'official' photo id. Drivers license, passport, etc.

I remember that people 18-20 years old could drink beer and wine on the ship while at sea with parent permission and they hole punched a single hole in your sea pass to denote this. I'm not sure if they still do that or not.

I'm not condoning under age drinking, BUT, as long as you aren't sailing during spring break, and as long as you don't get all liquored up and act like fools, I think you'll be ok! ;)

Not saying that RCI always adheres to their own policies but I would suggest you read their policy on providing alcohol to those who are underage. They do have the option of removing you from the ship. Will they do it? Who knows but why take the chance.

That being said..if you are old enough to die defending the freedom and liberties of this country you should be old enough to enjoy a cold beer.

The wine and Beer thing has been out of effect for at least 3 years those under 21 have their card punched indicating their age. Also the guest code of conduct that every guest signs indicated you will abide by the rules or risk being put off the ship. Part of that agreement is you will not provide alcojhol to under age minors.

Here is the text:

 

Alcohol

Royal Caribbean guests are expected to be responsible for their actions at all times, including during

transfers to and from ships, inside terminals, while onboard, at our ports of call, during shore excursions

and at our private destinations. Consuming alcohol to excess impairs one’s judgment and reduces one’s

ability to recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations. Guests who choose to consume alcohol

must do so responsibly.

The minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages on Royal Caribbean International ships is 21. A

guest’s age is established upon embarkation (beginning of the cruise). If a guest celebrates their 21st

birthday during the cruise, the guest may thereafter ask the Guest Services Manager to modify ship’s

records to permit their consumption of alcohol during the remainder of the cruise. The guest will be

required to appear at Guest Services with his or her parent or guardian and to present a government

issued form of identification to establish that the guest’s 21st birthday was celebrated during the cruise.

The ship’s staff may refuse to serve alcoholic beverages to any guest who does not consume alcohol

responsibly and may request verification of a guest’s age to determine whether they are of age to

consume alcohol pursuant to this policy.

No guest under age 21 may possess or consume alcohol during transfers to and from ships, inside

terminals, while onboard or at our private destinations. Should a parent or guardian choose to permit

their minor(s) to consume alcohol while ashore during a port of call or an excursion (where local laws

permit), they remain accountable for ensuring the minor(s) consume responsibly and retain their ability to

recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations when they return to the ship.

On cruises embarking in a country where the legal drinking age is lower than 21, a parent who is sailing

with his or her 18 to 20 year old minor son or daughter, may be permitted to sign a waiver allowing the

minor to consume alcoholic beverages. The authorizing parent and the minor must agree to be

responsible for ensuring the minor will consume alcohol responsibly and otherwise comply with the Guest

Conduct Policy, including among other things, not providing alcoholic beverages to any other person,

regardless of age.

Guests are not permitted to bring alcoholic beverages onboard for consumption or any other purpose.

Alcoholic beverages that are purchased from onboard shops or in ports-of-call (which must be presented

to security upon re-boarding), will be secured by ship’s personnel and delivered to the guest’s stateroom

just prior to the conclusion of the cruise. Security may inspect containers (water bottles, soda bottles,

mouthwash, luggage, etc.) at any time, and those concealing or attempting to conceal alcohol will be

subject to action pursuant to the “Consequences Section” of this Guest Conduct Policy. Guests under the

age of 21 who possess alcohol in violation of this policy will not have alcohol returned to them and

appropriate consequences will be considered, including but not limited to loss of privileges to use the

disco or other areas or facilities of the ship.

Guests who violate any alcohol policy, including but not limited to underage drinking; providing alcohol to

minor(s); possessing, concealing or attempting to conceal alcoholic items in their luggage, when

boarding, or while on board; or failing to consume alcohol responsibly, will be considered for discipline

Are you looking for guarantees?

They might or might not. As long as you are aware of what can happen if you and/or your bro are caught then no problem.

I believe I've read here that people have been let off the ship at the next port. If a 'few' drinks is worth taking that chance, go for it.

If they are going to drink, then that is the best bet.

I don't think they will have much of a problem drinking around the pool, as long as they are under control. However, tell your brother and cousin to absolutly not walk around the ship with a drink. The security will definately find them and their life on board will be miserable from that point forward!

Sorry to bring bad news to you but I have seen RC check ID's around the pool for people that they thought looked a bit young to be drinking. No, they were not drunk, loud or rioting. I think the ship was just trying to enforce the rules and ensure things stayed calm. As for the ports... I hope you all have a wonderful time and enjoy your drinks there!!!

I like to party, BUT, be careful! I've heard of people getting kicked off of ships for giving drinks to those that are underage... Don't ruin a trip by doing this, have a few in the room then head out... Better yet, wait till you get in port (where the legal age is 18), that's what I did with my friends (he didn't go) kids who were under 21. He gave me and them the greenlight to have a few in Mexico, and that we did!

IMHO it is not worth it to put yourself at risk by purchasing them drinks on board. They should be able to legally drink on land during your port stops, so I would do the boozing on land. Most likely you would get away with buying them some drinks on board, but there have been reports of people being booted off the ship when caught doing this. Even though the chance is small, the consequences of being booted off the ship are severe, so the risk:reward ratio is not justified.

I agree. However, because you can do something doesn't make it a smart thing to do. Too many people feel the "peer pressure/cool-factor" to drink alcohol. It's epidemic on campuses. I recommend not doing it. Your changes of avoiding various problems in the future will increase.
