sneaking liquor on board....

On our first cruise we had one large suitcase that was nothing but bottled water, soda, wine, alcohol, and mixer. Everything was undisturbed. We did not put clothing on top of everything or wrap the bottles in clothing. Everything was simply in the suitcase. All anyone had to do was unzip it. The funny thing is my husband got called to the lower deck upon our embarkation because he had left his pocket knife in the front zipper of the alcohol suitcase. They handed him back the knife and told him to have a great trip. They found the knife by x-raying the suitcase. So, you see, they knew what was in that suitcase. Smuggled? Yes! Covertly? No way!

Because of the latest weight limits, I have broken down and ordered a quart of hooch through CCL. It cost me $42, but now I won't feel guilty when I'm swigging from my flask at the casino, or adding a dash of "distinction" to my morning guava juice!;)

So, the maximum punishment for this offense is they will confiscate it?

This noob is looking to smuggle! ;)

I'm already working through my plans for our November/December cruise...

I'm going to pack an empty duffle bag in one of our suitcases. We're flying in early to visit with family, and we'll purchase our "consumables" in Fort Lauderdale. When we're ready to leave for port, we'll transfer our clothes, toiletries, etc to the duffle bag and pack said consumables in the rolling suitcase! Problem solved! LOL!

Yes. That is the "punishment" specified in the contract for bringing on unauthorized alcohol, unless you are under 21.

If under 21, you can be disembarked for possessing any alcohol.

What would happen if they do detect it? Do they just take it out, or do they keep you from getting on the ship? As long as I still got to go on the cruise, i would not care whether they got it or not.

They just confiscate it. Most people that are busted were trying to carry on the alcohol.

If you put it in your checked luggage, the chance of having it confiscated is near 0%.

How did you do that? All I could find was the wine, and now it's too late (less than 4 days).

I just picked up 3 16oz. plastic flasks though. That should last me at least until day 2... as long as I don't make any friends. :D

They caught us once. They gave us the option to take it back to our car or they would keep it and we could pick it up on the last night.........

We took it back to our car....

as far as what to use for mixers.....you can use the free fruit punch and lemonade on the lido deck or carry a 12 pack cooler with soda in it through security. the soda is allowed so that you can take as a carry on. and I always felt bad smuggling alcohol on cruises cause I worried that the cruiselines would increase the cruise fare for everyone since they weren't making money on us smugglers but I found out that a cruiseline makes money if every person buys at least $7.95 in drinks per day (could be soda or alcohol). so that made me feel a little better..........so basically the cruise line makes a killing in profit!

Then why not just bring it in the carry on if nobody is hiding anything?

They do not have to declare anything as they will have their carry on opened; and everyone knows that. Hence is why "they" hide the booze in the check in.

my bf....takes on( i think )at the most 2gs of alcohol....never gets stopped....!!!! (6yrs)...but we still spend (a lot)of money on drinks at the bar.....we use it to ADD ...to what ever they make us at the bar....so i guess Carnival have to make some sort of rule about this so HOPEFULLY it wouldn't get out of hand......( somebody bringing on an entire liquior store).....i know people who would do it..................

Hi, new to cruising.... first one in 2 wks. What is a good rum and soda combo? Just wondering... I would like to save a little money too. Thanks.

It comes down to taste - if you like coke then you might like rum & coke. Personally I don't like rum too much - usually I pack some whiskey in the rum runners and have whiskey cokes, and whiskey and ginger ale.

Thinking of packing a box of wine as it would travel better then glass i think. In your folks travels the box protect it enough? Would hate it to spill somehow and have luggage full of wine.
The cardboard box does an excellent job of protecting the bladder of fermented grape juice.

Just curious - any idea why they checked your bag? What port was it? Was it during spring break time?

I was very nervous my first few times, but now I don't give it a second thought. I'd hate to have to resort to "sneaking";)
