WTF does having a career, interesting or as boring as can be have to do with it? Takes less than 10 minutes to fill out the appliocation or phone call to get a credit card.

Favorite sign I saw at a jewelry repair shop "A lack of planning on your part does not make it an emergency on our part".

I'm just letting you know that if you're taking a small amount of cash ($250 is JUST that) and a debit card, you'll be in a world of hurt if you were to be injured when you go ashore.
one of the best pieces of travel advice i've gotten is to take lots
of ones and fives out -of-country, because you won't lose much
is you mess up in a transaction. also doesn't have you flashing
big bills.

never had a problem using credit card out of country, but they
do charge a couple dollar overall transactiion fee for currency
conversion.

one time while home in ky., someone managed to use my
card to buy $450 worth of clothes in india!

I travel with 2 credit cards. One stays in the safe, one goes with me on shore. I also take around $50 in cash for small purchases. I'd rather have a problem with the credit card and know that one phone call with resolve it than take the chance of losing a substantial amount of cash.

I also carry a passport card with me and leave my passport book in the safe.
