DAGVBSB Posted April 9, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2009 Our Resource Officer at school (a city policeman who is assigned to our building) was talking at lunch yesterday and was telling about his recent cruise. I heard him say "Dawn" and I perked up. Here he, his wife and another couple from our school sailed the Dawn over break last week. I of course questioned him about his cruise and what he thought of the Dawn and Freestyle. (didn't let on that the Dawn is one of my favorite ships...) He was very complimentary of the Dawn and her crew. He said the food was excellent, much better than RCCL. He loves the Freestyle concept and really likes the Specialty Restaurants. Someone else at the table asked him about having to pay extra. His reply was... "so what, it costs a few extra bucks to eat in a different place, what's the big deal??" He said that he loved the Freestyle disembarkation and wonders why the other cruise lines can't seem to do that. He thought the entertainment was top notch as well. He only had three complaints: 1.) The ship missed Great Stirrup Cay due to high winds or waves and they got a refund of $12.50 for the missed port. This complaint was acutally in jest as his complaint was that the missed port cost him alot more than $12.50 because he spent the day in the bars and casino instead of the island...lol 2.) He was quite upset with a fellow passenger who ranted and raved about missing the port and how the passengers should file a class action suit and how NCL had mislead them about the port. She went on and on and on about it. Finally he stood up and in his police voice told the lady to Shut Up because no one really cared and she was making a fool of herself. (boy would I have loved to see that....) He later heard that she had complained to the front desk that a fellow passenger had been rude to her.... I guess his only real complaint about the ship and the cruise was about the Photo Department. He said the photo people were inept, unhelpful, rude, bossy and "just plain stupid." When I told him that the photo departments were a contract operation and not ran by NCL, his comment was: "how can a first class ship operation get stuck with a third class photo operation." One of our Administrators who was sitting at the table then spoke up and said that he and his wife were taking a cruise on the Pearl this summer to Alaska. He said that he had been originally booked on RCCL, but after hearing me talk about how much better NCL was than RCCL, they switched. And after hearing the resource officer talk, he is even more happy with his decision to switch.
