Driving from Chicago to Mobile

I would try to get south of Nashville before stopping for the night. You don't want deal with morning traffic when another hour on the first day would get you clear.

I agree completely. We live in the Mobile area but all our family is in Kentucky so we make the drive several time a year.

Get south of Nashville before you stop. Then time your departure to pass thru Birmingham after 9:30. That will minimize any potential traffic issues.

Enjoy the Mobile area. Make sure to take advantage of one of the many wonderful local seafood resturants. If you want a reccomendation for one just let me know!!!

Here's my two cents. If you'e willing to drive to Mobile, then consider driving either to Houston/Galveston and cruising on Carnival Conquest or Carnival Ecstacy-both of which would be a better choice than Holiday. Or... likewise drive to New Orleans and go on Carnival Fantasy-which would also be a nicer ship than Holiday.

The mileage is pretty much the same to either Mobile, Galveston or New Orleans. Heck, if you're going to drive a thousand miles, then I think you deserve a nicer ship:)
