daring Posted May 22, 2009 Author #651 Share Posted May 22, 2009 Good idea, Daring. Maybe he will check in there. My husband loved Missi's trip report too. He even sent it to his sister. Look only 9 days! Are you ready? When do you leave? I'm getting nervous, you?
Gregor4500 Posted May 22, 2009 #652 Share Posted May 22, 2009 Hi all, sorry I haven't been around lately. Soooo busy. I leave in a couple hours. Flight leaves Philadelphia at 6:30pm. chapichapo Posted May 22, 2009 #654 Share Posted May 22, 2009 LOL, I feel the same way! I'm thinking we should just go ahead and book our next one so we have something to look forward to in the future. I was thinking northern Europe or Alaska. This is my first trip to Europe and I am sure I am going to want to explore more countries! We can be cruise mates, then ;) I saw one from Costa in July or August 2010 (can't remember the exact date anymore) in a new ship - the itinerary seemed nice. We allways have to travel on those dates because we are both University teachers, so can only travel in July or August.
Gregor4500 Posted May 22, 2009 #655 Share Posted May 22, 2009 Daring, I just read your post on my roll call. Actually, I think l'm taking what Rich suggested. Sandals, sneakers and dress. Though the dress are more comfortable than the others. By the way Rich, Those shirts, were they like Charlies or Alans?
Bannda Posted May 22, 2009 #656 Share Posted May 22, 2009 Look only 9 days! Are you ready? When do you leave? I'm getting nervous, you? I am nervously excited! :o) I leave in 6 days!!!!! We have two nights pre-cruise in Barcelona and one night post-cruise. We can be cruise mates, then ;) I saw one from Costa in July or August 2010 (can't remember the exact date anymore) in a new ship - the itinerary seemed nice. We allways have to travel on those dates because we are both University teachers, so can only travel in July or August. I'll have to check that out. A new ship sounds nice. We typically vacation in spring or early fall to avoid the crowds. If I can convince my son and daughter-in-law to do this cruise, we would have to do it in the summer because she will be teaching. Of course, I still have to convince my husband that we'll need to take another European cruise next year! Daring, I just read your post on my roll call. Actually, I think l'm taking what Rich suggested. Sandals, sneakers and dress. Though the dress are more comfortable than the others. By the way Rich, Those shirts, were they like Charlies or Alans? Can't wait to hear about your trip, Gregor! Oh wow. When you get off, we'll be almost ready to get on! I'm so glad I finally figured out this multi-quote thing!!! Yay me! daring Posted May 22, 2009 Author #659 Share Posted May 22, 2009 Hopefully Missi and MG will be back on by then. I have a guestion for someone. I bought some travel checks today but they are in dollars. Should they be in euros or does that matter? OK I'm getting a new kind of education here. Maybe you can convert them once you get there? Hopefully, someone else will chime in on this. I won't get home until 9:30 Eastern time Wednesday night. Its my Girls Night Out. We've been doing this for 12 years! We meet up, have dinner, drink wine (or margaritas or beer) and talk about anything and everything.

ValRober Posted May 23, 2009 #664 Share Posted May 23, 2009 My daughter and I did this a cruise on the Jewel in the summer a couple of years ago. I wish I had time to read all 34 pages of your posts. It was soooo hot, but we loved it! Highlights included dinner by the water in Barcelona (best paella ever!), the winery tour and lunch on the side of a volcano, riding the chair lift for incredible views on Capri and seeing the statue of David in Florence! We didn't spend much time on the ship at all due to all the fabulous ports and excursions!

Rich, Glad to see you popped in and sorry you are feeling a little blue. I wonder if that happened to Missi too? Anyway, cheer up, we are talking of planning another cruise together. May take a couple of years to save up but let's get started. It will give us a good reason to work our butts off. Someone, How easy is it to use US travel checks in Europe or not? I totally understand where you are coming from on the post-cruise depression. I always feel that way after having an exciting vacation. The cure is to plan the next cruise/vacation! :) Someone, How easy is it to use US travel checks in Europe or not? Daring, I'd post this on the Med board. I'm sure someone could help there. daring Posted May 23, 2009 Author #670 Share Posted May 23, 2009 You are right Bannda. The US travel checks, not so good in Europe. I guess I'll just keep them and use them while traveling in the US. Not only am I getting an education on this so will this little girl at my bank. :(

It sounds like the girl at your bank definitely needs an education! Can you convert them to Euros once you get to Barcelona or at the airport before you leave? Are you flying out of Atlanta? ValRober Posted May 23, 2009 #672 Share Posted May 23, 2009 Daring...we stayed at the Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel and we walked nearby, going past the Maremagnum shopping mall. We crossed a bridge and went past a marina. We ate at a restaurant that was right along the waterfront there. It was pretty much an all outdoor seating area. Lots of people there late at night...great sangria...wish I could remember more! Hmmm...maybe it was the sangria! If I figure it out, I will let you know! Here's a map Val in case it refreshes your memory. If not, daring, at least there's some ratings on here. I read a review elsewhere that said the best paella is fresh cooked in the area by the port, so that fits with what you said. I will never find out because I'm allergic to shellfish:( http://barcelona-guide.info/cuisine/Seafood-and-Paella
