iluvtravel Posted December 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 2, 2004 We are planning a family reunion for next summer. We have narrowed it down to two dates, one of which is over the 4th of July. I was wondering if anyone could tell us if Carnival does anything special for the 4th? Would it be more fun to be on the cruise, or should we save the Independence Day festivities for home and schedule the cruise on the alternate date? Thanks for your input! GoinCruisin Posted December 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 2, 2004 All they did for us was sing Yankee Doodle Dandy and God Bless America in the dining room  If you are visiting Mexico and like to drink, keep in mind that Mexican elections are held during this time and most places do not serve alcohol the day before or the day of the election... We did not know this until we got to Cozumel... strange to see Carlos and Charlies empty... we did get served at Fat Tuesdays, primarily because it is a touristy place... in town, there was nothing :( Nothing special for the 4th, I don't know that I would do it again... Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted December 2, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 2, 2004 We have recently made a point to cruise on the 4th (my b-day woo hoo), yet Carnival seems to do little more than have the waiters sing at our table... LOL A mention or two of the holiday - a jazzed up front page for the capers ... not much else. Tom

GoinCruisin Posted December 2, 2004 #5 Share Posted December 2, 2004 Tom I know! Seems like just yesterday! We enjoyed celebrating Chris' bday on the ship, (and yours as well!!) but they sure didn't do much for the holiday... Oh well, we still had a blast! Just wish we would have known about the elections!!!! LOL! Hope you guys are doing well!

GoinCruisin Posted December 2, 2004 #7 Share Posted December 2, 2004 Oh Liv, there can ALWAYS be fireworks :p They are just not provided by Carnival and probably not your "garden" variety of fireworks  LOL...
iluvtravel Posted December 2, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted December 2, 2004 Thanks for the input. It sounds like it would be better to spend the 4th of July at home, then cruise the alternate date, since they don't do anything special.

They pretty much cater to you 24hrs a day (food, beverage, cabin service(s), provide you with a variety of cultural experiences etc. I'd say that's rather "special". GC I know you're not talking about friction induced fireworks.
