cruise jail?

I know that they have a brig for those that are really at risk - other than that they confine you to quarters (stateroom). You have to realize that this is actually a floating city with all sorts of people and deviates that must be dealt with. This is not something most people have to face but if you do - the devil be at your back.

Two years ago when we were on the Grand Princess two passengers got into a big fight in one of the lounges and were escorted back to their rooms. The next day they ended up on the same tender boat going into Cozumel and they got into another fight -- one of them mooned the other one and they were both banned from the ship, their bags were removed from their rooms and they were left at the dock and told to find their own way home.

Regarding deaths on cruises, one of my cousins was on the Carnival Liberty in Europe a few years ago and one of the passengers was killed crossing the street when returning from a shore excursion (how sad is that?). That person's body was put in the morgue until they returned to their originating port where the body was flown back to the United States.

Do cruise ships have jails on board? I'm not saying I'm going to get arrested but what do they do with people who commit a crime on board?

I think they just handcuff you to a pipe in the purser's office. At least I remember seeing that somewhere...

25 years ago, i got into a fight on a princess cruise heading down the west coast of Mexico. It was my senior high school trip, and there was another high school...and a girl....anyways...

for 2 days i was locked in my room and was brought room service. There was also large men that took turns sitting outside my room making sure i didnt leave.

In prison...the large men are in the room with you.

This post is so funny, love the stories, well the funny ones, not the sad ones.

We had a death on our last cruise too. A ladies DH had cancer and was terminal, he wanted to take one last cruise with her. Unfortunately he died on the first day. They removed his body from the ship in Cozumel and I assume flew him back to the states. We didn't know about it until we went to disembark in Coz.

On our Ecstasy cruise in 2003 a nasty old drunk exposed himself to a group of girls, which included the ones traveling with us. This was at the comedian's late show early in the cruise.

He spent the remainder of the cruise on cabin confinement with security outside the door. At that point, it might have been for his safety as well, because the daddies of those girls would've loved to get their hands on him.

On the Holiday in 2005, we were sitting on the back of the ship just out of Mobile (well it was just getting dark), when we saw blue lights coming. My SIL joked that we must be getting a speeding ticket.:)

It was the coast guard. The ship slowed down (really slow, but didn't completely stop) and the coast guard pulled up next to us, then loaded the passenger from the ship to the coast guard's boat.

We found out later that the man had gotten really drunk and threatened to blow the ship up.:(

Not sure where they kept him until he got picked up.

I've personally seen on two cruises (once on RCI, once on Carnival) passengers kicked off the ship at random ports for bad behavior. Since this is the Carnival board, the one I saw on Carnival had to do with underage booze smuggling onto the ship from the port. Apparently a couple of teenagers (related) tried to smuggle booze on from one of the ports. Security confiscated it and warned them. Well, these geniuses tried it again at the next port. They were booted from the ship, along with their family.

The one on RCI was a couple of drunk males in their 20s who were misbehaving and verbally harassing female passengers.

I applaud the cruise lines when they take action like that! In both cases, the individauls were warned, and as is so rare on ships as many of us know, the lines actually enforced their policies for a change.

Alcohol and testosterone, always a volatile combination. :p

I can confirm from inside sources (people in the industry) that every Carnival ship does, indeed, have a small brig. Also people can be confined to their cabin under guard.

We had an incident onboard the Splendor where a guy (Russian Maffia type) caused a disturbance in the showroom. This was early in the TA cruise last fall. A guy I got to know was up early when we left Barcelona and saw the guilty party, his wife/girlfriend and their luggage standing on the dock as we left the port. He did get a photo, but it was on his film camera. Yes, they do throw bad actors off the ship and leave them in foreign ports on their own.

Doc:D

i don't know about now, but the body used to be kept in the cooler with the meats.

(In a body bag). One older ship, the Vera Cruz, years ago, kept caskets on board because

they catered to the elderly. They were quite used to death on board.

One of the textbooks for the Certified Travel Counselor designation discussed various

problems that arise, and death was one of them. The rule of etiquette is gave was the

surviving passenger, after a suitable period of mourning, should rejoin the cruise activities.

We figured (this was in 1988, by the way) that on a 3 day cruise, the mourning period

would be 30 minutes.

We joked about it, but it's a horrible thing to have happen. So is having your teenager

thrown off a cruise for misbehavior. Before cruise lines limited student groups, and

mandated chaperones, the damage done on ships was incredible. Considering the

number of passengers carried, the number of incidents like that is very low.

They just lock the door after everyone gets there for the CC Meet & Greet!:D

Yes, they have both, and I know of both first hand because...

1.Morgue:YES!! My grandfather died on a cruise ship in the 1970's (I was like 2) during a month long cruise...they froze him and kept on cruisin....Gramma completed the cruise with gramps in deep freeze...I have an awesome family, huh?

2. Jail: Yes! Over Labor Day weekend, 2002, on the Xtasy during a very rowdy cruise, a dude was very drunk and decided to run totally nekkid, round and round the pool, wiggling and jiggling at all the women around the pool, til security finally caught him...directly to jail for the rest of the cruise. I had a really up close view of the whole thing, and it has painfully failed to fade from my memory...gross!!

So yeah, they have both.
