CRUISING71 Posted April 17, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 17, 2009 Hello, We are thinking of booking the cruise in August 30 to Mexico Riveria. Reading from previous posts...some said it is rough sea coming back into California. Is this the case year around or just winter months or Hurricane season? Any advices would be appreciated... Thank you, Tibbie
melika091900 Posted April 17, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 17, 2009 its kinda a hit or miss unfortunatley, we have sailed the west coast mexico in november and it was rough, went around a hurricane near acapulco, in jan, feb and april, smooth sailings it all depends honestly, i think august would be ok,
bobnsofi Posted April 17, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 17, 2009 We are going on the Splendor in a few weeks. Should be Great! The newer large modern cruise ships have side sway control and are very stable. We have been on older and smaller cruise ships, and it has been very different. The last day up the Baja coast, the ship runs against the typical seas and weather, and there can be a little movement. For the most part, on newer large cruise ships. NO PROBLEM, go whenever you want!

Thank you, Tibbie We've done baja/MR several times and sometimes it's pretty smooth and sometimes not, it is mother nature and can be unpredictable. We were on the Spirit last month and part of the time the ocean was like glass, but coming back on the last day it was the typical choppy waters, but not bad at all (probably 3 foot swells). The problem is the ocean current and winds run straight down the west coast from Alaska so you are going against the current and wind and at a pretty high speed to get back in time. Personally we like a little ship movement, but I know some can't tolerate it. The west coast doesn't have as drastic a hurrican season as the Caribbean, so that's not usually the issue. The roughest cruise we've ever been on was out of New Orleans, so you just never know.
