Summit/San Juan or Solstice/Ft. Lauderdale

Look at Millie out of San Juan. The biggest problem with San Juan comes from the airport, by flying during the week you remove than problem. It is a sister to Summit and a great 10 night itinerary. It only cost 2 extra vacation days. You will have a great time. If it comes to flying on the weekend, Solstice is a better cruise, but the itinerary doesn't match up well. Solstice is a beautiful ship with great service.

In the end only you can make the decision. What's most important, new ship, ease of flying, itinerary, or price?

We have done the Solstice and were looking at either sailing her sister for 10 nights in October or sailing on Millennium, We are leaning toward Millie I can get so much more cruise for better price. We love the M class ships as well as S class, you really can't go wrong

We are trying to decide on which ship/itinerary/port to take for a February 2010 cruise. We have sailed on Summit before and loved it, but hear some bad things about San Juan. Any opinions?

We've done the Southern Carib out of San Juan twice now. We love Puerto Rico. It has an amazing Latin culture, excellent food, and great beaches. Southern cruises have more port time and usually a better selection of different islands to visit--very appealing to us.

Not sure what bad things you've heard, but keep in mind it all depends on how comfortable you are with changes and differences. San Juan is not FLL--it's a decidedly different flavor. If you choose to go, I would recommned flying in a couple of days early to experience the excellent food, shopping and lifestyle San Juan has to offer. El Junque rainforest (45 minutes outside of SJU) is amazing and there is a Bio Luminescent bay that literally glows at night.

You could also choose to stay at a hotel outside of San Juan for a more "resort" atmosphere. The Wyndham Rio Mar Resort is located on a beautiful tropical bay with a long beach and nice, clear, turquoise water. The beaches near San Juan are also nice lack the clear water of some of the hotels further away.

All in all, I say give it a try!

(Note: We have Solstice booked too--but for the med, not the Caribbean. It's a gorgeous ship also!)

Thanks for the information.

Rick, what did you mean by "If it comes to flying on the weekend, Solstice is a better cruise, but the itinerary doesn't match up well." Do you mean its a better ship or just better because you don't have to fly into San Juan on the weekend?

We just returned from San Juan S. Carb. cruise on the summit. We arrived 1 day prior to sailing and toured the old town. After the cruise pre-flight we hired a taxi driver to show us his San Juan and had a wonderful time, visited a fresh food market, ate some local food and toured the Barcardi distillery. We rode the city buses, and everyone was friendly, helpful. A smile works wonders in any :)country. Most San Juans speak english, and love the green backs.
