hansonsk20 Posted April 20, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2009 We are set to be in Juneau in early September for a Princess cruise. We are debating between the dog sledding excursion through the cruiseline or with booking a whale watching excursion with Harv and Marv. We are husky people but are afraid the tour may be a bit too 'touristy' for the price. What are your thoughts?
Grannycb Posted April 20, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Go with Harv and Marv for the whale watching in Juneau. You can do the sled dogs from Skagway. Here's a link to the company we used: http://www.chilkootcharters.com/yukonrail.htm Both are great trips.
JillGoBlue Posted April 22, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 22, 2009 We're cruising in Alaska in late August/early September and are actually booked to do both of these things. Harv and Marv's and Coastal were both really flexible in setting up the tours and Harv and Marv's people said they would drop us at Coastal after the tour so we could fit it in. Maybe you could do the same?
Assateague Island Princes Posted April 23, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2009 Another vote for Harv and Marv's - loved the excursion, and are hoping to do it again next June when in Juneau. Really amazing, up close and personal experience with incredibly knowledgeable folks who love their job, their whales, and their Alaska! Enjoy!:D

The one on the Chilkoot excursion (which is a great excursion, we did the 7.5hr but without the sled ride, you can visit the puppies & watch the sleds if you don't take the ride) has no snow and is a cart, different than the type in Juneau. The dog sled excursion in Juneau is often cancelled due to weather. This happened to us before. Probably would have better luck doing the whale watch, at least in terms of it not being cancelled.
