Blue Lagoon Island Dolphin Observer

I am confused by Disney's description of this excursion. Is this the one where everyone gets to at least pet the dolphin? I have a 9 and 5 year old and it is confusing how they describe you watching a family member participate - like everyone does not get to do it. Can someone clear this up for me? I am looking at the right excursion?

If you go as an observer, you only get to watch from up above... in order to have contact with the dolphin, you have to pay for the dolphin encounter. Its basically for people who want to watch their family members do the the dolphin encounter. When we did it, my kids and I did the encounter, and my husband was an observer (he took the photos). The whole excursion is totally worth the money, we had a great time!
