Manzy154 Posted April 25, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2009 We are taking a south bound Princess cruise out of Whittier July 20. Is there anyplace along the ships route that we want to make sure we are watching for whale? Someplace where it may be more common.
Putterdude Posted April 25, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 25, 2009 Whales can be spotted anywhere on route but are generally off in the distance so you really have to work to spot them. The ships do not veer off course to get closer to them.
Yukon Posted April 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 25, 2009 Some of the best areas are: the north end of Vancouver Island for orca; the mouth of Glacier Bay and the mouth of Tracy Arm (south of Juneau) for humpbacks.
emste Posted April 27, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2009 Also, they announced it over the loud speaker on our cruise last summer if they spotted anything. We saw a ton, but as posted, they are mostly far off and you need binoculars.
SeaDawg Posted April 27, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 27, 2009 The buffet on the Lido deck is where you will find some of the biggest whales at sea. :D
vbmom87 Posted April 27, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2009 Our daily programs made us aware of the areas we would most likely see whales, and we did. We also had announcements made when whales or other wildlife were spotted. We saw quite a few whales from our ship, but as already stated, they are not up close and personal.
