Drink Coupons/Drink Prices

Mistynica: That actually isn't bad at all. Only about $10 more than a liquor store or Jewel. Is there a limit to the amount you can buy??

Thanks.

Bob

YW :)

That I do not know. I didn't actually order from them, but I did ask the prices on several different liquors. In fact, if you do a search on: bon voyage vodkas in the Carnival forum with me as the poster, you might find the post I made listing several of the prices. The post was a couple of months back.

It is a decent deal if you don't want to bother with smuggling...

Oops. I have to retract...:o

I found my post. The Grey goose was $60. The Absolut was $40

I read this post and remembered that we had a sheet of drink coupons from our last cruise as part of a gift basket we received. Got out all the cruise stuff and got so distracted looking at pics and capers I forgot what I was looking for.

Had to come back and read the board to remember what sent me searching in the first place :o I found them though LOL

I also saw a sheet we received on the first day with all our papers to order liquor. It has a big page of different sizes and types and the prices. So it looks like you can wait and get it when you get onboard too.

Thanks mistyinca.... Hmmmm.... now I wonder.... do I try and smuggle onboard or do I order a bottle for double the price..... hmmmmmmm

We are also trying to have every person bring their alotted "1" bottle of wine onboard, but from the looks of this we will be more than fine.....

I checked a smallish carry-on-style (though I didn't carry it on) bag with a 12pk soda and a few water bottles. That would be a pain to carry on. YOu're allowed to bring in non-alc beverages, so there's no problem with that.

Wow, I thought there was a limit with non-alcoholic beverages. Looks like I will invest in some bottles of water for my wife and I would bring pop BUT she will have the pop card so no fear, although maybe a bottle of cranberry juice or OJ for vodka would be nice as well!!!! I still have 38 days until I leave, but am super excited!!!

I take a small suitcase with a case a water in it. That way at the end of the week I have an extra bag to put whatever I buy in. They allow a reasonable amount of soda and water so you aren't shorting anyone or breaking any rules if you bring it on.

ok, I just got off the splendor, and I had all of these questions before I left... I attacked my alcohol from all angles...I bought coupons, I bought 4 bottles from bon voyage and I smuggled a bit......first off, nobody really talked about how carnival sells their drinks.....my first moment onboard at the bar, I asked for a long Island Iced tea, he asked If I wanted a signature one and a double, I said yes to both...I got the reciept and my drink was over $12.....I said yikes, this week is gonna cost a fortune...but to my suprise, my final tab was quite a bit lower than I expected.....heres what you do...if you are using coupons, wait til you are out of the states...you will be charged local taxes....then go to your favorite bar, order a single drink, tip the bartender with cash. after that day I never paid anything over the ticket value...but remember...single drink is 1 coupon, double is 2.....always do the double.....lotsa booze!!!! out of the 4 bottles I brought, I only opened 2 and those 2 were left half empty in my trash can when I left....also, keep an ear out for happy hours....we had 2 of those.....basicly you drink for free for an hour at a time....bring friends, stand in line and order multiple drinks...and repeat this for an hour.. I probably had 12-15 drinks per hour.... stay away from the casino bar during these....very slow service, and they only let you order 1 drink per person...we had great success at the sports bar, the bartenders there were extremely fast and we got whatever we wanted....dont be afraid to wave a $20 bill at your bartender, it will be very appreciated and your quick service becomes magicly even quicker......and as far as the bottles, bring soda onboard.....if you drink screwdrivers like I do, you can get orange juice delivered to your room for free, with a small tip....

and tip your steward a few bucks on day 1 and your ice will be filled at least twice a day...

Since you all on this cruise stayed along the CA coast most of the time, were you charged sales tax the whole time, or is it only while in a CA port?

Only while in port. Two times in Long Beach, and then in San Francisco.

And the open bar is not a common occurence. I think they were trying to appease us. Doesn't work, though, when you don't tell anyone about it until an hour beforehand!

OK. Cuz I'm cruising to Catalina, and it just occurred to me that we will be in CA all the way there and out. I'm not thinking about the open bar, just the sales tax. LA county is now nearly 10%! I wonder about the casino. Will that not open for a while too?

The 4 day Baja was my first cruise, and the casino was open the first evening. Since it's not that far, I'm wondering if they took us out to int'l waters at night and came back in in the morning?
