While there are recent cases of influenza in Mexico DF and a few other states, so far Yucatán has no cases of illness. Precautions are being taken to keep it that way, which is why large public gatherings have been temporarily cancelled. Restaurants in Yucatán are open. Archaeological sites, museums, and cinemas in Yucatán are closed until May 6 so far, and we will update you then. Meanwhile, follow the instructions of health officials regarding prevention. Travel Planning May 7 update: High schools and universities will go back to the classroom today, May 7; kinder, primary, and junior high will return Monday, May 11. Archaeological sites re-opened at 12 noon yesterday. Most cinemas, bars and restaurants are open or will re-open by tomorrow. Some museums will re-open today, and all will be operating normally tomorrow, May 8. Precautions are still being taken to ensure the illness continues to abate: museum, restaurant and other staff are doing an extensive disinfecting of all areas where the public gathers. Personnel are wearing face masks. The public is being asked to stay away from public spaces, and seek medical assistance, if displaying any flu-like symptoms. And the public is also being asked to wear masks and use hand disinfectant, and wash hands frequently, as well as avoid shaking hands and kissing when greeting people.
