Kween Karen Posted May 4, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2009 I know there is has been a lot of discussion of the Olympus underwater cameras. I have a new question. I have the SW 1050.....and I finally had a chance to play with it in a pool. (I want to take snorkeling pictures on my Grand South Pacific Australia New Zealand voyage in September) So I have a question for other users of this Olympus line of cameras. When I used it in the pool I could see NOTHING on the screen.......so I had no idea what I was shooting. (The pictures I got were fine....but never new if there was anything I was pointing at.) Does anyone else have this problem and a solution for it??? I am wondering if it was just because I was swimming without a mask and just opening my eyes and therefor my vision wasn't clear enough??? Ideas please???

Yes, I would imagine this was almost certainly the problem.
Guzmania Posted July 21, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 21, 2009 I have noticed the same problem too. It is a guess what you are shooting. I am planning on trying again in my pool with my snorkel mask on. I will let you know. Julia ourtime2cruise@yahoo.com type 'camera' in the subject line please.
jhmoore143 Posted July 22, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2009 I have a SW-850 and didnt have a problem seeing what I was shooting underwater by using the LDC screen on the back. Stupid question - was the setting on the thumb dial set to Underwater 1 / 2 or Widescreen (the under water settings I have on my 850).???
Kween Karen Posted July 22, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted July 22, 2009 I had set my camera to the underwater settings. I still haven't been anywhere where I can try it out with my mask on. I am assuming this will make the difference.....hoping anyway.
RogerCalgary Posted July 23, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 23, 2009 I've used the 1030SW fairly extensively while snorkeling and it's been pretty much all purely point-and-pray. Just take lots and lots and some will turn out. The movie functionality is also fun, so try that, too. I'm not sure about the 1050SW, but with the 1030SW, there was a firmware software patch to download from the Olympus site that fixed some audio issues with movies. Might be worth checking out. Cheers, Roger
