P&O shuttles in Livorno?

What does P&O do regarding shuttle buses into Livorno town (Piazza Grande area)?

 

I ask because I've just read on the Celebrity board that they (Celebrity) recently charged $12 (return, I assume) per person for the shuttle from the ship (Century in this case) into town.

P&O do not usually charge for shuttle buses unlike RCI/Celebrity. Last time I was in Livorno with P&O, there was no charge.

We were at Livorno last week on Independence of the Seas.

We were charged $12 each for the shuttle bus which was reduced a few days later after complaints about the poor return service to $8 each.

We were told that it was the port who were levying the charge.

The only way to get from the ship to the town is by organised tour, taxi or shuttle bus. No win situation there.

 

Shuttle bus at Civitavecchia was free.

We visited Livorno whilst on Aurora last April and from memory the shuttle bus was 3 euro return. We were told that it is the port that arranges the shuttle busses and whilst many were free (Barcelona etc) Livorno always charges. We just paid the driver when boarding.

When on Indie of Seas last year was charged $12 per person to take a bus to centre of Livorno, but did hear P&O don't charge.

 

From there, you could take any public bus in town, e.g. to the train station for €1 each, which would have been nice if we knew, before walking all the way to the train station !! :)

There is a tobaconnist shop across the road from where the shuttle drops off where you can buy bus & train tickets to get you to Pisa or Florence. They will tell you which bus to get to the train station, which is about a mile out of the town centre
