cookiemantoo Posted May 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2009 I am suffering sticker shock at the air prices from Portland to Anchorage one way on July 15, best price so far is $267.00 Alaska Air. Does anyone know if the price goes down as the departure date gets closer. With the cost of Air, ground transfers, hotel in anchorage and train to Seward by the time I get on the ship my costs to get to the ship will be aproaching the cost of the cruise! Any advice will be appreciated.
Chenega Posted May 13, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2009 Probably not on a lowered airfare since Portland usually remains much higher than Seattle and Alaska Air pretty much has the route to themselves.
wolfie11 Posted May 13, 2009 #3 Share Posted May 13, 2009 $267 is actually a pretty good price. You might find something cheaper out of Seattle, but there aren't a lot of discounts on fares to and from Alaska in the summer.
AkSusan Posted May 14, 2009 #4 Share Posted May 14, 2009 I was thinking the same thing $267 is good. Welcome to the wonderful world of high airfare between Alaska and the Lower 48, especially the west coast. Susan in Anchorage :)
kenish Posted May 14, 2009 #5 Share Posted May 14, 2009 First off, that price isn't bad and I personally would book it right away. There are things to investigate if you're flexible: - Check fares out of other airports like Seattle, Eugene, etc. - Check alternate dates and spend more time pre-cruise in Alaska. - Look at connecting flights that may even be backtracking from PDX...for example SLC, SFO, etc. HTH!
