Drop Luggage with Princess at ANC with independent transporation??

ANC to Whitier to catch cruise. Magic Bus told us that "Princess will happily ;) and without charge take all the tagged luggage so they don't have to handle it multiple times with no charge and they don't care you are riding another method to Whittier, luggage collection is right inside the door at Alaska baggage claim". We are considering renting a car and dropping it at Avis in Whittier (yes expensive drop fee ), or taking Magic Bus and Glacier tour in Whittier. However, we have 5 people and not dealing with luggage :( as we tour our way to Whittier would be great. Has anyone just dropped their luggage off this way (without booking Princess transfer). :confused:. Thanks.
